We recently got a new patch for Street Fighter 6 for which you can find the patch notes here.

It was not a major patch by any means and most of the changes were focused on Elena and Sagat, and as you may notice when looking at the patch notes, A.K.I. reportedly received no changes at all, and she indeed didn’t. Yet still, there was technically a buff for her embedded within this patch.

First of all, let’s note that this buff is actually extremely minor and largely inconsequential to the game in almost any scenario, but it is a buff since it gives A.K.I. players better clarify than they would usually have in specific scenarios.

The buff to A.K.I., as it turns out, is actually not part of the character changes at all but instead in a completely different section of the game.

In fact, the buff centers around the newly implemented Street Fighter 6 Battle HUD feature, where you can modify your in-game HUD to display as other beloved Street Fighter games, including Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition.

Worth noting, though, is that all of these new HUDs can only be purchased with Fighter Coins, an in-game currency which can only be obtained by paying real money. This means that A.K.I.’s buff is actually a pay-to-win buff, though likely unintended to be so.

According to Broski, this seems to be applicable specifically to the Ultra Street Fighter 4 HUD and not the rest, as well.

So what is the buff exactly? Well, as you may be aware, your life bar changes color when you reach a certain hit point threshold in-game to signify that you’re now at the health level where your Level 3 Super Art turns into a Critical Art, meaning it will deal more damage and hurt the opponent’s Drive Gauge more.

However, this is also something that can be used while attacking an opponent since this health threshold tends to be where you can go for a Level 3 Super Art yourself and actually finish your opponent even if you’re doing a longer combo. Essentially, it’s a mark that shows “this combo will now kill” in many scenarios.

A.K.I., however, can’t really use this visual indication normally because whenever she inflicts poison on her opponent, their health bar turns purple and gradually decreases slightly more due to the poison effect. However, this color change also means that you can’t see the health bar indication where they hit Critical Art level health and conversely means that the A.K.I. player can’t visually confirm whether they are in kill range or not for a Level 3 Super Art.

So why does the Ultra Street Fighter 4 HUD specifically solve this issue? Well, it has a unique indication unlike the others which is still visually clear even with a purple health bar, but you can see exactly why including examples and visual showcases in Broski’s YouTube video below to find out how A.K.I. got a pay-to-win buff (which is largely inconsequential, but still pretty funny).
