Puripol Boonson has been on billboards across Thailand ahead of the 2025 SEA Games (9-20 December), where he hopes to show why he is his nation’s poster boy.

The sprint sensation is already the national record holder in both the men’s 100m and men’s 200m events, and at 19 years old, is aiming for greater heights at the 33rd edition of the Southeast Asian Games.

Boonson’s target is to recoup his triple crown from the 2021 Games held in 2022, where he seized gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Surin native was unable to defend his titles last time out in Cambodia in 2023, as a hamstring injury sustained mid-race ruled him out of medal contention for all three events.

Now he wants to prove his quality once again, on home soil no less, at the Suphachalasai National Stadium. Boonson’s key objective is to win the 100m gold medal and run a sub-10-second race in Bangkok.

He already has the fastest regional time this year at 10.15 – can the Thai teenager break the 10-second barrier and reclaim his Southeast Asian crown?
