Important Note Before Starting
Before beginning the Easter Egg, we recommend turning Subtitles On, if you haven’t already, as you’ll need to recall some spoken planet names to complete a particular step.
If there’s a lot of noise going on around you, these names may be easily missed.
Step 1: Restore Power to the Harmonuc Oculus and Unlock the Pack-a-Punch Machine
Before the Astra Malorum Easter Egg can be started, you must first restore power and unlock the Pack-a-Punch machine. To do this, follow the waypoint marker northwest and open the gate to The Luminarium for 1,250 Essence.
Throughout the Astra Malorum map, you’ll find purple glowing crystals. When shooting or meleeing these crystals, you’ll have a chance to receive x50 Salvage or a random piece of Equipment.
These purple crystals will respawn after a short period of time has passed, so this is a reliable and repeatable method for farming salvage.
Inside the The Luminarium, you’ll find a Harmonic Component on the ground beside a dead Zombie. The exact spawn location is random, but for us, we’ve had the component spawn on the ground next to a display opposite the Jugger-Nog Perk Machine, and also next to the Electro-Volt Projector, so just keep your eyes peeled.
With the component in hand, continue north through The Luminarium and open the gate leading to the Abyssal Rim for 1,500 Essence.
Head all the way to the end, and open the door to the Observatory Dome for 1,750 Essence.
Once inside, interact with the Harmonic Oculus in the center of the room to turn on the power.
Repair the Harmonic Oculus
To repair the Harmonic Oculus, you’ll now need to find two missing components. If you’ve been following along with our walkthrough, you’ll have already picked up the first piece.
But, if not, the first component can be found on the ground inside The Luminarium (more details above).
The second component can be found within the Machina Astralis. Much like the first, the spawn location is entirely random, but for us, we found the second Harmonic Oculus component on the second floor, just a few meters away from the Arsensal machine. Thankfully, both components are marked by waypoints, so locating them should be easy.
With the second component in hand, return to the Observatory Dome and interact with Harmonic Oculus to install the components–you’ll need to hold interact to install them.
Defend the Harmonic Oculus and Unlock the Pack-a-Punch Machine
When installed, interact with the Harmonic Oculus once more to officially turn on the power, which will initiate a lock-down sequence. You’ll need to defend the Harmonic Oculus from incoming Zombies for 45 seconds. Should fail to defend the machine, it’ll enter cooldown and you will need to flip the round before you can retry the sequence.
However, should you succeed, the Pack-a-Punch machine will be created and become available opposite the Harmonic Oculus.
Step 2: Obtain the LGM-1 Wonder WeaponImportant Note
Before you can begin collecting the items needed for the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon, it’s important that you purchase at least Level 1 Pack-a-Punch, as a packed weapon is needed obtain the items.
Now that you’ve restored the power and unlocked the Pack-a-Punch machine, it’s time to obtain the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon. To do this, you must first collect four unique items–these can be collected in any order. These items include:
Obtain the Damaged Drone
To get the Damaged Drone, you’ll first need to locate O.S.C.A.R. a mini boss that will spawn randomly around the map. For us, O.S.C.A.R. spawned in the Crash Site after unlocking the Pack-a-Punch machine. But, if you’re having trouble finding him, you may need to flip a few rounds before he spawns.
Once you’ve found him, shoot and destroy one of the small UFO drones that are flying around him. When destroyed, pick up the Damaged Drone that will appear on the ground. It’s important that you don’t kill O.S.C.A.R. as we’ll need him for an upcoming step.
O.S.C.A.R. moves very slowly and simply running away from him will see him losing aggression towards you, so keeping him alive and avoiding his attacks will be relatively easy.
Just remember, O.S.C.A.R. can only see what’s in front of him, so as long as you trail him from behind, he won’t know you’re there, unless you draw attention to yourself.
Obtain the Car Battery
To obtain the Car Battery, head to the Crash Site, and shoot the hood of Ol’ Tessie with a Pack-a-Punched weapon, and watch as a Car Battery appears–pick it up.
Obtain the Absolute Zero Fragments
To obtain the Absolute Zero Fragments, you must first purchase and equip the Cyro Freeze Ammo Mod from the Arsenal for 500 Salvage.
Once you’ve got Cryo Freeze equip, find and shoot three glowing purple crystals, which can be found randomly in the outdoor sections around the map.
Pro Tip: While searching for the purple crystals around the map, keep an eye out a blinking lightpost, which you’ll need for the next step.
After shooting the crystal, pick up the Absolute Zero Fragment it’ll drop, and repeat this step until you’ve collected a total of three fragments.
Obtain the Aberrant Wiring
To obtain the Aberrant Wiring, you’ll need to find a blinking lightpost, which will spawn randomly in one of the outdoor areas around the map.
Upon finding the blinking light, shoot it with a Pack-a-Punched weapon to receive the Aberrant Wiring.
While locations will differ every game, we’ve had the light spawn in the Stargazer’s Courtyard, Crash Site, and Abyssal Rim.
Pro Tip: Some lightposts are partially obstructed by pillars and other objects, so make sure you search carefully, as some can be easily missed.
Kill O.S.C.A.R. in Three Different Traps
Once you’ve obtained all four required items, it’s time to kill O.S.C.A.R. in three unique ways using special traps located in the Observatory Dome, The Luminarium, and Museum Infinitum. Like the item collection process, the traps can also be activated in no particular order.
Kill O.S.C.A.R. in the Observatory Dome Trap
To get started, make your way to the Observatory Dome, and interact with the Harmonic Oculus, which will cause a device on the wall to begin smoking. The location of this device will be random every game, so simply look around the entire room, including on the walls on the second floor above.
When you’re ready, shoot the smoking device, and it’ll trigger a timed sequence that requires you to shoot four more random smoking devices around the room in quick succession.
It’s worth noting that only one smoking device will be active at a single time.
If you fail to shoot the five smoking devices within the time limit, you’ll need to interact with Harmonic Oculus to try again. If that fails to work, you may even need to flip the round before you can reattempt this step.
Once successful, it’s time to lure O.S.C.A.R. near the center of the room. When he’s in place, interact with the Harmonic Oculus once more to enter the telescope.
Here, you’ll need to search the sky for the Sun. While a name won’t appear, you’ll simply be looking for a bright orange circle.
Upon aligning the telescope with the Sun, a bright orange beam will begin in the room. Lure O.S.C.A.R. into the beam, and keep him inside it until he is destroyed. If you’re having trouble keeping him in place, destroying his Drones can slow him down.
Important Note
You will need a total of three O.S.C.A.R.’s in order to complete the trap steps, so you will need to flip rounds in order to spawn more.
Kill O.S.C.A.R. in The Luminarium Trap
When you’re ready, make your way to The Luminarium and lure an O.S.C.A.R. into the room with the Electro-Volt Projector.
Once he’s in the room, activate the trap to trigger a lockdown-like sequence. To complete this sequence, simply keep O.S.C.A.R in the room until the Battery Overcharge bar is filled, and he’s destroyed.
Pro Tip: To help increase your chances of survival, we highly recommend shooting the drones surrounding O.S.C.A.R. at every opportunity, as this will keep him in a weakened and in a more managable state, especially when doing this solo.
You’ll also be able to avoid some of O.S.C.A.R.’s incoming attacks by rotating around the laser trap in the center of the room. This will also allow you to train some of the incoming Zombies, making them easier to take down.
Kill O.S.C.A.R. in the Museum Infinitum Trap
Last, but not least, lure another O.S.C.A.R. into the Museum Infinitum, and look for the red and silver-colored rocket that’s displayed near the southern side of the room. When you’re ready interact with console to activate the rocket, which sees a white beam appear.
We found that it was rather challenging to keep O.S.C.A.R. in place while completing this particular trap, so it may take several attempts before you’re successful.
Once O.S.C.A.R. has been destroyed, and if you’ve been following our guide so far, you’ll receive LGM-1 Wonder Weapon, which is essential for completing the Astra Malorum Easter Egg.
Step 3: Solve Thurston’s Planet Code and Obtain the Key
Having obtained the Wonder Weapon, it’s now time to begin the main Easter Egg. First things first, locate an O.S.C.A.R. and closely follow behind him without drawing his attention.
After a few moments, he’ll begin playing some recordings. Once you reach the recording from Dr. Thurston, listen very closely, as he’ll mention three planet names. You must remember both the planet names, and the order in which they were spoken, as you’ll need this information to create a unique three digit code.
Essentially, each planet corresponds to a number, which is based on the order in which it is away from the sun. For example:
Mercury = 1 Venus = 2 Earth = 3 Mars = 4 Jupiter = 5 Saturn = 6 Uranus = 7 Neptune = 8
The code you receive will be random every game, but for the sake of an example, our planets were Juptier, Earth, and Mars, which corresponds to the code: 534.
To further help with this, we’ve created a handy checklist table below, that allows you to checkmark which planets you received, and their corresponding number.
Once you’ve got your three digit code, return to the Observatory Dome, and input the code into device that’s attached to a pillar near the southern door.
If you’ve entered it successfully, a lift will lower near the Pack-a-Punch machine. Climb up onto the lift and interact with the slumped over body to receive the Cryo Chamber Key.
Step 4: Obtain Thurston’s Brain and Survive the Lockdown
Now that you have the Cryo Chamber Key, it’s time to obtain Thurston’s Brain. But, before we can do that, we must first obtain a Saw so we can open up Thurston’s skull.
To obtain the saw, make your way to the southwestern corner of the Museum Infinitum. Here, you’ll find a display cabinet along the wall. Break the glass window, and interact with the Rock Saw that’s display inside.
With the Rock Saw, head to the bottom floor of the Machina Astralis, and look for a Cryo Chamber. Once located, interact with the machine to unlock the glass chamber, revealing Thurston.
Now, interact with Thurston’s head to obtain his Brain.
Upon harvesting Thurston’s Brain, head to The Luminarium, and look for a table along the eastern side of the building that features a glowing purple machine with a brain inside.
Interact with the machine to replace the brain, and the device will turn yellow. After a short moment, a 60 second lockdown will begin as the machine attempts to reboot.
During this lockdown, you’ll need to defend the Perfusion Machine from incoming Zombies, being sure not to let its health drop to zero. Given that the area is quite tight and confinded, we recommend utilizing Decoy Grenades, Cymbal Monkeys , and LT53 Kazmirs as much as possible, especially if you find yourself becoming overwhelmed.
Step 5: Power Up the Machine in Machina Astralis
Once the lockdown is complete, pick up the device, which has now turned blue, and transport it to the center of Machina Astralis.
Carrying the device will significantly slow you down, so if you’re playing with a squad, be sure your squad is protecting you from incoming Zombies.
When arriving at the large central room in Machina Astralis, look west and place the Perfusion Machine into the empty device along the wall.
Once in place, hold interact on the black screen until the Perfusion Machine is successfully connected to the device.
Step 6: Solve the Book and Statue Puzzle in Archive of Orbis
After initating power to the machine, the computer screen will turn on and read “Dr. Thurston’s Reading List”. After a moment, the screen will change and will begin flashing five book names on screen, which you’ll need to note down.
If you don’t have pen and paper handy, we highly recommend using our checklist below, which can also be used to quickly solve the following book puzzle.
It’s important to note that these books will be random every game.
Once you’ve got your book names listed down, head into the Archive of Orbis, which is accessed via the nearby door. Here, you’ll find a library that consists of three searchable walls of books. Each wall is also assigned a turnable white statue bust.
Where to Find All Dr. Thurston’s Books – Astra Malorum BO7 Zombies Easter Egg
Thankfully, book locations are static so if you reference our checklist or slideshow of images above, there won’t be any need to search the bookcases. Now, your first course of action will be to total up how many books from Thurston’s Reading List appear on Wall 1, Wall 2, and Wall 3.
If you’re using our checklist above, simply total up the checkmarks you’ve ticked in each column.
Once you’ve got the total, quickly interact with each statue bust as many times as the book names show up on their corresponding wall. For example, if Wall 1 contains one book from Thurston’s Reading List, turn the statue once.
Here’s a more practical examples, if you need some further assistance:
If Wall 1 contained two of the books from Thurston’s Reading List, turn Statue One twice. If Wall 2 contained one book from Thurston’s Reading List, turn Statue Two once. If Wall 3 contained two books from Thurston’s Reading List, turn Statue Three twice.
Once you’ve successfully turned all three statues their correct amount of times, look along the western wall, where you’ll find a secret room has been revealed. Climb up the ladder, and once you reach the top, look south, and interact with the large blue planet that’s found hidden in the attic.
Step 7: Align the Planets in Machina Astralis
