Since MP4 is releasing in 3 days, i think it can be fun to look back at their previous (outside of MP Remastered) project.

(Info from memory so it could be wrong lol)

Harmony was supposed to be a 3D action game set in a fantasy world where the protagonist has the power of "do stuff" with her sing. She also could sumon some allies.

The project, iirc was in development for the WiiU, and Nintendo was ready to announce it in a Nintendo Direct but the plans changed last minute. The game continued development until it was moved to the NX. It's unknown why at some point it got cancelled, but if i had to guess, it wasnt reaching Nintendo's quality standards.

Once the game got canned, Retro got tasked with remastering the whole Prime trilogy. In the end, the managed to do just the first Prime, which makes sense since in 2019 they got an even bigger task: making Prime 4.

Fast forward to recent times, someone got their hands on a Switch development kit, and inside they found non other than Harmony, giving us the very first look at the game. The leaked build contains different incomplete parts of the game (idk if from different builds), the demo pitched to Nintendo, and a test room. It also has a cute intro animation.

Personal opinion: honestly, if the reason for the cancellation was the quality of the game itself, i kinda get it. Knowing the fact that is incomplete, what we have, to me, shows a game with kind of a bad artstyle and no real new ideas. The gameplay we have shows some basic platforming and basic puzzle solving. The main gimmick, the point of the game, seems just a "press button to sing and stuff happens around you". The artstyle also looks like the mobile games that try to be Nintendo but they arent. It's hard to explain. (Im not talking about the graphic quality, which ofc is incomplete, bur rather the menus, character designs, world ecc.)

In the end, while im sorry for the time wasted, im happy that Nintendo got them to work on Prime 4, which is looking great.

What do you think?
