Brief Concept / Summary:

In an alternate year 2000, the Y2K bug triggers a catastrophic, global technological failure. Nations and extremist groups seize the moment and exploit the chaos. With modern systems crippled, allied nations – forced to rely on outdated, analog technology – must unite to confront rapidly escalating threats.

Campaign Story:

The campaign follows two special forces protagonists battling across multiple global hotspots and fronts. Their mission revolves around a ragtag team of soldiers and tech specialists working to reconnect a fractured world. What begins as a desperate effort to restore communications soon reveals a deeper conspiracy: a clandestine, anti-technology organisation engineered the Y2K meltdown to reshape the future. Their manipulation turns a feared glitch into a global, real world catastrophe – and only by uncovering their network can the protagonists stop the world from collapsing further.

Tone:

Although set in the early 2000s, ‘Call of Duty: 2000’ embraces a brutal, unfiltered tone comparable to ‘Call of Duty: World at War (2008)’ and ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)’. The fractured, disconnected world becomes a breeding ground for atrocities – unseen, unrecorded, and unrestrained. The game’s atmosphere emphasizes desperation, uncertainty, and the visceral consequences of technological collapse.

Antagonists and their Goals:

‘Section Zero’ are the primary antagonists. They are a covert anti-technology terror organisation that views the looming digital age as a threat to human sovereignty. Convinced that the future will bring mass surveillance, AI-driven control, and erosion of truth through digital manipulation – they see Y2K as a chance to “reset” the world. By escalating the bug into a true global disaster, they aim not for conquest, but for global simplification: a world insulated from the digital future they fear, where humanity returns to analog dependence and limited technological growth.

I’d really appreciate your thoughts and feedback on this story/game concept. I’d previously posted about a concept under a previous name ‘COD: Ghost Front’ but I considered the title too close to previously published COD: Ghosts.

Overall, I want the franchise to move away from the futuristic, over-saturated tone of the last few entries. Instead, I’d love for the games to take inspiration from the titles that really grew the franchise to begin with – such as COD4, WaW and Black Ops (2010).

What do you think?
