The Acacia, Re;AER, and Circle Line Games’ helmed visual novel Magical Girl Witch Trials has continued to pick up momentum. Following its breakout success on Steam, the team is preparing a North American expansion. In a recent Famitsu interview, Acacia Games representative Toshiyuki Hata shared new details about the brand’s future.
The game launched in July 2025 and quickly became a hit. By October, sales surpassed 200,000 copies on Steam, backed by more than 15,000 user reviews and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating. Hata said the response was unexpected and that the team was surprised by how fast interest spread. The Switch version is currently scheduled for Spring 2026.
The success pushed developers Re,AER and HYDE to establish Acacia Games, a new studio built around Re,AER’s Acacia creative label. The team is using the new studio structure to support both the upcoming Switch release and its push into North America. Hata said they want a team that’s ready to deliver on the expectations of a wider audience.
While details are still early, the mention of a North American expansion suggests an English release is being considered. The game currently supports Japanese and Simplified Chinese, and the steady interest from English-speaking players may be driving this move.
Magical Girl Witch Trials follows 13 girls caught in a series of deadly witch trials. The tone leans into magical girl themes similar to Madoka Magica and Magical Girl Raising Project, while the structure has seen comparisons to Danganronpa.
