Consider this a rant and review of BO7
Today, I got BO7 from Steam for the £70 joke that it costs, simply because I knew how honourable Steam is with refunds. I'll go over what I think somewhat chronologically:
Booting The Game Up
The game requires the Call of Duty launcher, which is just sad. Signed in, told me something about how some other account was stopping me from logging in, so I went to Activision's website, unlinked my 2 accounts, and it let me proceed. Not a great start to what should be simply booting up the game
The UI
Terrible. Whether the game's supposed to be in the 1990s, or the 2030s, the UI of these modern games is always identical – MW5. The buttons, scrolling sound, clicking sound, it's all inspired from MW2019 onwards. The amount of settings is a genuine joke, I needed 15 minutes to go over everything. There's so many settings for so many stupid things now
For a comparison – Cold War, set in the 80s, has a style of UI that's grey and has small details referencing the CIA, KGB, and so on. The UI actually goes with the theme. And going through all the settings takes about 2-3 minutes compared to 15
The Operators
Forgettable. I don't know homie, since Cold War most of the operators are just lame as hell. It's like "Which one looks the least stupid?" instead of "Too many good options, not sure which one to choose". I honestly wish we just went back to factions, let the kids whine about it
The Graphics And Optimization
For a game 5 years newer? Pathetic. Just like every other game since Cold War, the game has been developed around the TAA anti-aliasing method. I won't talk about AA methods here, but essentially, TAA is a lame AA method that makes the game look blurry, and here these geniuses are developing the entire game around it instead of letting you choose different AA methods like MSAA and SMAA. Because of this (among many other factors I assume), the game just doesn't look nice and clear. And it most certainly doesn't look half a decade newer. Oh, I also get around 60 frames on Medium settings. On Cold War, I get around 120 frames on High settings
The Movement
Again, just terrible. Omnimovement is single-handedly ruining the movement system now. First it was Tac-Sprint, and now it's this. Was it a clever idea? Yes, it was clever and something new. Does it play nicely? No, it overcomplicates it and makes everything feel lethargic in a way. Not to mention now we've got wannabe streamers snorting G-Fuel who can dive, 180, and magically no-scope you from across the map. What ever happened to just… running in a straight line with little gun bobbing? That's another thing, the gun bobbing. This started with one of the MW games. My gun might as well be doing backflips while I'm carrying it. Its just so bizarre
The Gunfights
Mid. Not bad, but not good in my personal opinion. There's something about the aiming and the recoil of the MW system (which again, this game copied) that I find strange. Compared to Cold War, my aim is just terrible. Maybe it's being unfamiliar with the game, but even when I played MW2019 I've just struggled compared to Cold War. I also just prefer it when the guns' recoil is just a little more arcade-y and simple
The Matchmaking System
I've got a theory – the no SBMM mode isn't even without SBMM. So after playing zombies, I went to FFA. Spawned, looked for an enemy, aimed at one, and he turned around as if he knew I was there and just beamed me in around 7 bullets from 20m away. That's no average player. Spawned again, and got beamed like it was nothing. Spawned again, killed someone and died. Spawned again, got killed twice in a row despite my aim not being that bad. I just left, decided that the zombies isn't worth the £70, and refunded the game
In Cold War my ratio is 2.7, in BO7 it's apparently 0.25
Is The Game Worth It?
Anyway, so yeah the game's awful. Almost every factor I've listed is awful. And to think that because the average player has Stockholm Syndrome, they'll still pay £70-£100 for it plus microtransactions, pretending that the update requires restart saga, MW UI, forgettable operators, childish bundles, TAA being baked into the development, overcomplicated movement, and bizarre matchmaking system is the best thing since the invention of the V8 engine. I'll never understand them
