After Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui joined Street Fighter 6 last season, it was Capcom’s turn to return the favor with a few icons of their own.

With the arrival of Chun-Li as the latest DLC character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, two of the heads of SNK fighters and Street Fighter discussed her inclusion.

Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama and SNK Producer Yasuyuki Oda released a copule of statements about bringing the strongest woman in the world to South Town.

In his post, Nakayama reveals that Ken and Chun-Li’s crossover first began talks all the way back at Evo 2022.

If you remember, there were a couple of ‘Welcome Back, Evo!’ crossover art pieces made by both Capcom and SNK, which sparked speculation that the companies may be collaborating.

That would of course come to pass, but we technically have already heard about this talk before.

Last year, Nakayama revealed their discussions with SNK began around that time, however, this was before Ken and Chun-Li were announced for Fatal Fury — so we didn’t know about that half of the crossover yet.

Here’s what the Street Figher Director had to say about Chun’s inclusion now:

“Following Ken, Chun-Li joins FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves! Thank you all so much!” said Nakayama. “Talks for this started with SNK back when we made the SNK/Capcom collab poster for EVO Las Vegas 2022. Seeing the characters come to life in the actual game is just incredible.”

“For this version of Chun-Li, moves were picked that fit CotW perfectly from across her appearances. During the review process, I kept finding myself thinking, ‘They went with that move ?!’- it was so exciting. She syncs beautifully with the game system and can really put on a flashy fight, so I hope you’ll give her a try!”

“Don’t miss her story with Mai Shiranui, who herself also appears
in Street Fighter 6! I think long-time fans will really love it. To everyone already playing, and those just about to jump in – let’s keep the fighting game scene alive and kicking together! Because, honestly… it’s just so much fun!”

He’s right. While much of Chun-Li’s moveset is based on Street Fighter 6, SNK went back and pulled multiple attacks from previous games, especially Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

Oda also provided his own statement, though, his was a bit more general.

“We’re so excited to finally make another long-awaited collaboration happen – following Ken, Chun-Li from Street Fighter is joining Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves!” said the longtime SNK Producer.

“Her incredible skills and determination are sure to bring a new flavor to the world of Fatal Fury. We really wanted to keep her moves and personality true to Chun-Li, but also let her shine as a uniquely ‘Fatal Fury’ interpretation.”

“We hope you will enjoy seeing a side of her you haven’t seen before! It’s been amazing to see all the support from longtime fans, and we can’t wait for everyone to try her out. We hope you enjoy playing as much as we enjoyed bringing her in!”

In our early review for Chun-Li in Fatal Fury, we felt SNK did a great job of bringing the world warrior over to their universe while making her arguably more fun than her home series.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is also currently 60% off in a new sale, which includes Chun-Li, Ken and the rest of the Season 1 DLC cast.
