I’ve always preferred using an external monitor directly in front of me, with my MacBook Pro on a stand to the left as a secondary screen.
Recently, I noticed some people placing their laptop directly in front of their external monitor and working like that. Why do they do it? Is it more comfortable?
The only clear advantage I see is that you can easily use the built-in keyboard and trackpad without needing external peripherals.
Are there other benefits to this setup that I’m missing?
UPDATE:
The problem is: I spend more time working at home than outside, and putting an external monitor behind the laptop usually means it’s not at eye level. Which can put strain to your neck and eyes.
Would it be better to:
- Raise the external monitor so its top edge aligns with eye level, or
- Place the external monitor to the left and keep the MacBook’s internal screen as the main display?
Which setup works best ergonomically? Or maybe is there a better alternative? Perhaps buy smaller external monitor?
It is such a waste to not use the delivered Macbook Pro's keyboard and trackpad and sometimes not utilizing the webcam when opting for external monitor being the main driver.
