I built my first pc 8 years ago, with an intel i7-6850K.
I am a casual gamer so I mostly built it for development and security research (I run a lot of vms sometimes).
Microsoft forced me, like many people, to upgrade my Hardware so I could run Windows 11. While I am a hard linux lover, I realistically need bare metal windows for some of my research projects.
So, after 8 long years I decided to upgrade, I am choosing an i9-10940X. Yes, I know it is over priced but I had one constraint I wanted to get right: I run 256 gb of ram due to the virtual machines I sometimes need. And I didn’t have the cash for a thread ripper.
This is the first time I do a major upgrade to my computer, feels exciting and nostalgic. I guess I will build a second desktop with my old mob, cpu and the components I have upgraded from my first build over the years. Feels a bit like the ship of theseus
