Due to excessive temps and thermal shutdowns, I think I need to delid the cpu. Reached 101°C or more. Its a x2 4800+ so they're a bit desirable, so I can practice on a cheap 3200+ (though i'd prefer not to kill it). If necessary, I could 3D print a holder for the cpu… But I was just hoping if anyone could offer some advice to help do it safely? Maybe heat? (I have an smd hot air station) Or chemical? Soaking in ipa to soften the adhesive? Any specific blades i should use or depth of cut? Contemplating direct die water cooling as I have all the bits. Not sure what VTIN is or why its so consistently high 98°C. Thanks in advance.
specs: cpu cooler zalman cnps 10x with fresh thermal paste. Mobo is msi k8n diamond, ram 4gb ocz ddr500, gpu 8800gt, fresh install of windows7. I currently have a 30cm pedistal fan blowing full speed over the pc to keep temps down (30°C at idle)
