“A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping” is the fourth Realm Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s the Return to Beast’s Castle update, taking place after “The Haunting of the Beast’s Castle”, “A Growing Mystery”, and “Belle, Book, and Candle”. Having received a mysterious invitation to a masquerade ball and a mask, it’s time to prepare for the celebrations! While Lumiere and Cogsworth insist on doing most of the work, there is still plenty to help out with.

Find Fine Cutlery

COGSWO~1.JPG

After talking to Cogsworth about his party plans, the first step in “A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping” is to fetch the Fine Cutlery from the garden cellar.

To find the cellar, head down down the hall and follow the corridor round to the left reach the garden. Starting from the garden entrance steps, you’ll find the double doors with silver handles down the slope on the left. Interact with the door and press the transfer button to move the Fine Cutlery from storage to your inventory.

Set The Table

PLACIN~1.JPG

Next, return to the main hall where you spoke with Cogsworth. To place the Fine Cutlery on the table, interact with the large, U-shaped table next to the grand piano. You can then transfer the Fine Cutlery from your Inventory menu to the table storage to set the table. Doing so adds a bunch of tiered plates to the table, but they are empty. Speak to Lumiere about his plans for the party food.

Find Charcuterie Board Ingredients

SPEAKI~1.JPG

Lumiere tells you that one of the dishes he plans to serve for the party is a Charcuterie Board. He asks you to locate the ingredients around the castle before assembling and placing them on the table. You’ll need to do a bit of exploring to find the Charcuterie Board ingredients.

Oyster And Creepy Crawly Crab

STORAG~1.JPG

To find the Oyster and Creepy Crawly Crab, head to the storage room next to the castle library and check inside the wooden storage box next to the two barrels at the back of the room. You can find the storage by traveling up the staircase at the end of the main hall, then heading through the Beast’s private chamber (The West Wing).

Inside the storage box, you can grab both the OooooOOOooyster, described as a haunted shellfish, and the haunted delicacy known as a Creepy Crawly Crab from crate storage by transferring them to your inventory.

Chilling Cucumber

CHILLI~1.JPG

Returning inside the library, turn left to find the Chilling Cucumber on the right side of the table in the top left corner of the room.

Booyere Cheese

The castle library is also where you can find the Booyere Cheese. You can find it on the table to the right of the central globe.

Screamed Butter

The final ingredient for the Charcuterie Board is called Screamed Butter, which you can find on the small table in front of the fireplace in the castle library.

Cook The Charcuterie Board Recipe And Place It On The Table Near The Piano

COOKIN~1.JPG

The next task in “A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping” is to cook the Charcuterie Board recipe using the spooky ingredients you gathered. Use the cooking station located in the storage room next to the castle library (where you made the Fireplace Fuel in “The Haunting of the Beast’s Castle Quest) to make the Charcuterie Board meal. You will need to use the Oyster, Creepy Crawly Crab, Chilling Cucumber, Booyere Cheese, and Screamed Butter you gathered.

CHARCU~1.JPG

Afterward, head back to the hall with the grand piano and interact with the table to place the Charcuterie Board, which instantly adds the spooky dish to every plate. However, the party preparations aren’t quite finished yet. Speak to Cogsworth to find out what he wants you to help with next.

Find Materials In The Garden

ROSEGA~2.JPG

Cogsworth thinks some decorative Rose Garlands would add the finishing touches to the party preparations, so it’s time to find some materials in the garden. Return to the castle garden where you found the Fine Cutlery, but instead of searching the cellar, you’ll need to grab the following ingredients from elsewhere around the garden.

Castle Softwood

CASTLE~2.JPG

Specifically, you need to collect 8 pieces of Castle Softwood from the garden. You may have gathered these already from removing Night Thorns and breaking statues in “The Haunting of The Beast’s Castle” and “A Growing Mystery” Quests. If not, check the castle garden for any potential remaining statues and Night Thorns.

Rainbow Rose Bouquet

RAINBO~1.JPG

The Rainbow Rose Bouquet is also a quest item you should have automatically in your inventory from the “A Growing Mystery” Quest, and you will need three Rainbow Rose Bouquets to tick off this item. If not, you can check your inventory to ensure they are still there and not in your personal housing storage.

Castle Detritus

Lastly, to find Castle Detritus, look for the brown storage bag located by the pillar right of the crafting station at the back of the castle garden. Interact with the brown bag to collect and transfer three pieces of Castle Detritus from the bag’s storage to your inventory. The game defines Castle Detritus as bits and pieces left over from various repairs.

Craft And Place Rose Garlands In The Hall

CRAFTI~1.JPG

Next up is to craft the Rose Garlands, which you can do using the Crafting Station in the castle garden next to where you found the Castle Detritus. You can find the Rose Garlands in the Functional Items menu in the Crafting Station.

Once crafted, return to the hall with the grand piano and interact with the archways near Cogsworth to place the Rose Garlands near the windows. You will need to transfer the Rose Garlands from your inventory to the window storage. Doing so decorates the window archways with beautiful, multicolor roses, which Cogsworth is immensely pleased with.

Put On The Masquerade Mask And Take A Photo With Lumiere And Cogsworth

TAKING~1.JPG

One of the only things left to do now is enjoy the party! Using the Wardrobe Menu, equip the Masquerade Mask, then take a photo with Lumiere and Cogsworth in front of the Rose Garlands to mark the occasion.

Afterward, listen to Lumiere and Cogsworth reminiscing, then speak with Cogsworth and Lumiere to learn what’s next.

Return To Dreamlight Valley With Lumiere

RETURN~1.JPG

After speaking with Lumiere, you learn that he is eager to rejoin Belle and the Beast in the Valley. Exit the Beauty and the Beast Realm and the Dream Castle to return to Dreamlight Valley with Lumiere and welcome him to the Valley. Doing so unlocks Lumiere as an official Valley Villager.

Although it is not required to complete this Quest, Lumiere also gives you the Birthday Party Invitation when welcoming him to the Valley.

Speak To The Beast Inside The Beast’s Home

BELLEA~1.JPG

After talking with Lumiere to welcome him to Dreamlight Valley, head inside Belle and Beast’s house and speak to the Beast about Lumiere’s arrival. However, the Beast wants to know where Cogsworth is, the latter being a bit reluctant to leave his duties at the castle. The Beast agrees that a letter from him ordering him to the Valley should change his mind.

Bring The Letter To Cogsworth And Return To Dreamlight Valley

COGSWO~2.JPG

Next up in “A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping” is to return to the Beauty and the Beast Realm to speak with Cogsworth, giving him the letter from the Beast. Cogsworth agrees to join Dreamlight Valley at once. Exit the Beauty and the Beast Realm and the Dreamlight Castle to return to Dreamlight Valley with Cogsworth, welcoming him to the Valley. Doing so unlocks Cogsworth as a character, who then joins the Valley as an official Villager.

Talk to Cogsworth, then head back to the Beast’s house. The final step is to speak with Cogsworth to complete the reunion with both characters welcomed back to the Valley by Belle and Beast, and to their home.
