Duncan needs you to see this gaming chair – and this record-low price
(Image credit: Future / Duncan Robertson)
Duncan’s very passionate about the Fractal Refine gaming chair, as he should be – he spends his days testing the best cushions on the market and this is his number one. Amazon has sliced a huge $450 off its final price – very nearly hitting 50% off. That means you’ll find the Alcantara version available for just $499.99 right now.
This is the first time we’ve even dared near this pricing position. In fact, previous sales have only ever trickled that $949.99 MSRP down to $915. We’ve gone from a high-end luxury to a price tag worthy of the mid-range, on a top-recommended product. That feels like a real Prime Day deal.

Rosalie’s top gaming headset just took another price cut, but it could drop further
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless was still $299 when I looked this morning, but I’ve just checked again (I’m waiting for a record-low on this one) and it’s dropped by a further $35. This is, and has been for years now, the best headset you can buy – so bigger savings are well worth taking note of.
It’s down to $264 ahead of Prime Day, but there’s still plenty of space for these cups to fall further. They’re rare, but I have seen sales taking us all the way down to $250 this time last year. Don’t get me wrong – these are particularly spicy flash sales that last a matter of hours – but there’s still a precedent.
At $264 you’re getting our top cups for their best price this year – but if you want an absolute steal there’s still $14 worth of extra savings that could become available.

My go-to Switch headset is now at my go-to sales price
I love the smell of a $69.99 Razer Barracuda X wireless gaming headset in the morning.
It’s a smell I’m familiar with – this headset drops down to $70 during nearly every major sale, but it’s never been cheaper at Amazon. You’re saving $30 on a back-to-basics feature set that prioritizes getting you in the game without faff, but still offers fantastic audio. This has been my ride or die for a good few years now, and considering the newer model is still over $100 it’s excellent value this Prime Day.

The MSI Claw 8 AI+ is one of Phil’s favorite handhelds, but it’s seriously premium. This Intel Core Ultra 7-258V powerhouse usually comes with a $1,099 MSRP, and that price doesn’t tend to budge. If you’ve been eyeing up the 8-inch device, though, Newegg has the deal for you.
Using promo code FTTE689 you can save $74 on that starting price tag – so now’s it just a hair over $1,000 for a Windows handheld. Prices on these gadgets are going up, ROG Xbox Ally pre-orders prove that – but this is still a rare saving on one of our top recommendations.

Saying that, Amazon is winning on this CPU
(Image credit: Future / Duncan Robertson)
Newegg’s Fantastech sale has the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D for $20 off its $419 price tag, dropping that final cost to $399. It’s just a shame for the egg that Amazon has the very same processor available for $359. It’s not a record-low, I’d be watching out for a $320 figure if you’re chasing the absolute best deal possible. It is, however, a rare win for Amazon in the PC gaming space.

PSA: Remember to price check
With all this talk of competing sales, I thought it was time to drop my first top tip of October’s Prime Big Deal Days event. That’s not to forget about other retailers. Once you’ve found a price you like, be sure to check other stores – many will be matching each other and you may find extras like faster shipping, free subscriptions, and other bonuses up for grabs.
Not only that, but some retailers can easily beat Amazon’s prices.

In fact, Best Buy’s game sales are looking pretty good right now
I’ve crossed the fence and snuck into Best Buy’s competing anti-Prime Day sale, and things are looking pretty good for physical game collectors. The retailer’s Techtober sale is hitting discs hard, with heavy discounts on a massive number of games lining the shelves. You can browse the full sale here, but the top picks from my personal collection are just below. Please, please, give The Plucky Squire a shot – thank me later.
The Plucky Squire (PS5) | $24.99 $19.99 at Best Buy
The Plucky Squire (NS) | $24.99 $19.99 at Best Buy
A Little to the Left (NS) | $29.99 $19.99 at Best Buy
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut | $69.99 $29.99 at Best Buy

Best Buy has already sold out of some of its biggest Nintendo Switch deals
Amazon Prime Day may still be a day away, but Best Buy’s Techtober sale has hit the shelves with force. Two Nintendo Switch 2 discounts look particularly strong right now, but they’ve already been snatched off the shelves.
I wouldn’t trash those URLs too soon, though. With the world’s eyes likely to land on retailer sites tomorrow, Best Buy could be preparing to bring these savings back. If they do, they’ll likely move fast.
Yes, a $5 saving on the Switch 2 Pro Controller is small but this is Nintendo hardware we’re talking about – and it’s been blighted by price increases since release. Similarly, the official Samsung 256GB MicroSD Express card was previously $10 off for the first time.
Definitely keep these ones handy when more Prime Day deals drop tomorrow.

While we’re on the topic of gaming laptops
Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 (RTX 5090) | $4,499.99 $4,099.99 at Best Buy
You’ll be spending a little more on an RTX 5090 configuration of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18, but if you’re going all in on power there’s a nifty $400 discount available at Best Buy.
Yes, that feels like a drop in the ocean on a $4,500 gaming laptop, but there’s never been a better time to invest in an 18-inch behemoth that puts performance first.
I love this machine – it’s the first Scar 18 that feels like a slick ‘grow-up’ gaming machine. Gone are the gaudy stamps and translucent plastics. Instead, you’ve got a machine that comes second only to the even-more-expensive MSI Raider A18 HX in my benchmark tests, with a gorgeous display up top to boot.

The Razer Blade 16 is $100 cheaper than it was before the weekend
That’s a full $600 off one of the biggest releases of the year.
The Razer Blade 16 seriously impressed me this year, so I was surprised when the luxury brand dropped the price of an RTX 5060 configuration by $500 a few weeks ago. That deal has been chugging along nicely, but Sneki’s just done us one better.
I’ve noticed a further $100 off this configuration on Razer’s own site, dropping the final price down to $1,799.99. Remember you’re getting the best display I’ve seen on a gaming laptop yet in that price, as well as one of the best keyboards I’ve used on a PC as well.

PSA: Keep an eye on this controller
(Image credit: Future / Duncan Robertson)
The Victrix Pro BFG is Duncan’s go-to controller, and it’s on sale for Prime Day! Yay! It’s also been cheaper earlier in the year – booo.
The $199.99 PS5 gamepad is down to $149.99 on Amazon’s shelves right now, which would have been a record-low if it weren’t for an additional $20 off back in April. For just a day, the Victrix Pro BFG was $130.40 in the spring.
Don’t get me wrong – I haven’t seen that price reemerge once since that flash sale, but it’s still a good chunk of change difference to the Prime Day deal we’re seeing today. I’d keep an eye on this one when the sale fully kicks off tomorrow – $150 is still decent, but there’s a little extra wiggle room here.

The most expensive keyboard I’ve tried so far gets an early discount
Well this was a surprise find.
The Asus ROG Falcata has the highest price tag of any mainstream keyboard that’s passed my desk so far, but Best Buy has been quick to drop that rate. The split Hall effect keyboard may have only been on the shelves for a few weeks now, but that’s not stopping its first major discount this October. You’ll find it available for $379.99 instead of its $419.99 MSRP.
That’s still a premium deck, so my initial recommendation still stands. The Falcata is only for those who already know they need a magnetic keyboard and will actually make the most of that split design. These are the best HE switches I’ve tried so far, but they come at a cost.

I’m just about to start my morning scroll, running through all the gadgets and gizmos we recommend highest and price checking their latest Prime Day deals. I’ll jump back with my goodies, but for now it’s worth remembering to keep a close eye on Best Buy and Newegg this week as well. Both have competing sales live that could be better than Amazon – especially if you’re after PC gaming kit.

Not long to wait now
Early Prime Day deals are indeed heating up, with additional discounts on a number of gadgets compared to their prices before the weekend. Just a reminder, this sale tends to kick off the entire holiday sales season, so I’m hopeful for some impressive offers. I’ll be here the whole time, bringing you my tips and tricks for making the most of the sale and sharing all the gold I dig up as well.
