since I wasn’t prepared I deleted my last post about lapping the ihs of my 7800x3d. ontop of that I had to do a fresh install of windows + try out this new bios (3303) for the x670e gene.

now that I have everything tuned, I can confidently share my findings. beta bios 3303 is interesting—the Vcore request for the cpu was programmed to be considerably high. which had me thinking the temps I was getting had something to do with the way I lapped my ihs, Ontop of the ambient temperature being considerably high.

so it raised a question in my head…since the Vcore request is much higher then anticipated, what if I’m able to run negative pbo values passed -30 ? and to my surprise that’s exactly what happened. My chip even boots at -40 which was not possible with any other bios. I dialed it back to -38 for now & it’s solid.

the third slide is with a game running & the cpu maintains at 33c-35c within menus & certain locations within the game before loading into a lobby. the ambient temp right now is 61c. While loading into a lobby i see anywhere from 35-41c & never goes above that aslong as the ambient temp is not too high.

aslong as the CPU’s voltage request is reasonably maintained then you will have good temps without doing what i did. I was just bored & wanted to try it out lol.
