I understand 100% where Joel comes from, what he means, when he says that today’s gaming world has taken the wrong turns in the wrong direction and stands in a place where the joy of playing today’s big titles – doesn’t really exist anymore. Day one patches, mic transactions, battle passes, outrageous prices, dozens of login problems and multiple accounts per game to be registered and managed, as well as unfinished releases, choppy monitor updates, games that despite price tags of up to 1000 bucks never really work as they should and more. There are plenty of // plenty of problems that the gaming world collectively has to work with, of course, and Joel tackles these in his latest column.
The sim racing genre (my favorite) is doing better today than ever and even though I think the fighting genre is in a strange place, I have instead spent more time on big games like Fortnite, Warzone and Marvel Rivals in recent years than I have in a little over a decade.
