Doughnuts recently let me know, that he got different damage numbers on a gun he was testing than in Season 4. Over the weekend he did some more testing, when I came back from Gamescom I was able to test a gun myself and the results aligned with his results:

Before (Season 4 and earlier):

(Fictional example gun for illustration purposes)

  • Base headshot: 1000
  • Deadshot (10%): 1100
  • Dead Again (5% on top): 1155

So the total gain was 15.5%.

Now (Season 5):

  • Base headshot: 1000
  • Deadshot (10%): 1100
  • Dead Again (10% straight on top): 1210

Now the total gain is 21%, not 15.5%.

Damage math explained:

Black Ops 6 doesn’t just take 1000 as a base damage, add 10%, and then add another 10% of the base damage. Instead, it first calculates 1000 times 1.1 (which is 1100), and then it multiplies that result by 1.1 again. In other words, you apply the first 10% bonus, and then you add another 10% on top of the whole new total.

Conclusion:

I am not entirely sure if that was intentional or if they accidentally pushed this change out early. My theory is that it might be part of some kind of rebalancing they’re working on, and they just ended up releasing it unintentionally. Normally you wouldn’t see a damage boost like that happen by accident.

I will reflect those changes in my DPS sheet by adding the damage increase with a formula in the sheet. Over time we will retest guns and confirm those numbers, I expect them to temporal numbers to be 99.9% accurate.
