Man, Chiefs left guard Kingsley Suamataia needed this. After two shaky preseason weeks in pass protection — he allowed three pressures in 21 snaps then — Suamataia had a standout performance in the first quarter Friday against the Chicago Bears.
Pro Football Focus’ preliminary grades had Suamataia as the Chiefs’ top-graded starting pass blocker with an 83.8 grade in that area, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes had an ideal throwing pocket often while delivering multiple passes downfield. Suamataia, a second-year player, is part of a Chiefs left side that will have lots of attention on it all season. The team’s left tackle, Josh Simmons, is a rookie first-round pick out of Ohio State.
