The Cannon Glitch is a Peak glitch that uses the Scout Cannon to launch you extremely far across the map. Here’s how to do it!

In Patch 1.25.a onward, the Cannon Glitch can no longer be used to speedrun the game, as the barriers between biomes have been increased to make this impossible. You can still use it to launch yourself great distances, though, and it may be possible to skip Caldera and The Kiln with it, though we haven’t tested it (successfully) ourselves!

Setting Up the Peak Cannon Glitch

You’ll need two things to make this glitch work: a Backpack and a Scout Cannon. The Scout Cannon is a rare item to find in luggage. If you want to survive your descent, you’ll also need a healing item like a First Aid Kit, Cure All, or Pandora’s Lunchbox.

How to Do the Peak Cannon GlitchPlace Your Scout Cannon

You want to place your Scout Cannon at the right angle. Aim too high and you won’t travel far enough across the length of the map. Aim too low, and you’ll hit something and come tumbling unceremoniously down to earth. You also want to make sure you’re pointing to the middle of the mountain, so you can hopefully land safely!

Use the scroll wheel to adjust the angle of the blue arrow coming out of the cannon. We recommend scrolling to the maximum vertical angle and then adjusting the angle down 3 notches.

Place Your Backpack in the Cannon

This may seem strange, but this makes sure you’re sent flying as far as possible. You’ll need to equip the backpack and then drop it into the cannon – this can be a bit fiddly so may take a few attempts.

Light the Fuse and Climb Into the Cannon

You need to step outside the cannon in order to light the fuse, then you’ll have a couple of seconds to hop back in and prepare for launch.

Use the ‘Play Dead’ Emote Repeatedly

To do this, press R to bring up the emote wheel, and select the bottom option. This will help you soar through the sky aerodynamically (?)

Don’t equip anything in your hand, as this could mess with your ascent.

Your next steps will depend on where you’re launching from!

If You’re Launching From Caldera: Wait Until ‘Peak’ Appears, Then Activate Your Flare

All being well, you’ll watch the game announce ‘The Kiln’, and finally ‘Peak’.

When you see ‘Peak’, activate your Flare. You won’t be able to see much, but once you see the countdown on your screen, that means the helicopter is on its way. After this, it doesn’t matter if you end up hitting the ground and passing out – you’ll still be rescued!

If You’re Launching From Earlier Biomes: Heal Before Impact

You’ll likely hit the tall fog barrier and start falling. We haven’t done this successfully ourselves, but it’s theoretically possible to time the activation of a Medkit, Pandora’s Lunchbox, or Cure-All perfectly so that you survive the impact.
