Hello Mother Nature! Yes, she was met with groans and probably a few curse words on the opening day of the 2025 high school football season.
Most of our area games were delayed or postponed to Saturday, and according to the weather forecast for Friday, Mother Nature is gearing up for an encore performance. We hope her arrival is delayed.

Jackson County at Jefferson — The two foes from Jackson County renewed the series last season, and it was all Jefferson in Hoschton, 38-3. Jackson County has never won in its 11-game history. Could this be the year they put a win on the board? Don’t count them out, but don’t sleep on Jefferson either. It could be a battle, then again, maybe not. Wesleyan at North Hall —The Trojans lost to Wesleyan last season. It was one of only two games they lost in 2024. The game is at The Brickyard this season, and we all know how that magic works. We have a sneaking suspicion that the Trojans won’t go 0-2 against the Wolves. However, it won’t be an easy win for North Hall. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Moody, Ala. at Gainesville — Big Red won last week. It wasn’t fancy, nor was it a blowout. But coach Josh Niblett will take a rain-delayed season-opening win any day of the week. They’ll host Moody High School from Alabama this week — a team that made the state championship game in their respective classification last season. Gainesville strolled to victory in Moody last season, and that could be the case again this season. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
