Playoff day at The World Games 2025 Women’s Softball competition was heavily disrupted by rain on Saturday in Chengdu, China, with only two of the six scheduled games completed.

The semifinals — Japan vs. USA and Chinese Taipei vs. Canada — have been postponed and will now be played simultaneously on Sunday at 9 a.m. local time. The Bronze Medal Game and Gold Medal Game will follow at noon, on Field 2 and Field 1 respectively.

In the morning Placement Round action, Puerto Rico defeated the Netherlands, 3-1, while Australia walked off China, 4-3. The winners were set to meet later today for fifth place, and the defeated teams for seventh, but both games were cancelled due to the weather.

Final standings will be confirmed after Sunday’s medal games are completed.

Schedule & Results

China 3-4 Australia – Play by play and Boxscore

A walk-off single by Shannon Keevers in the bottom of the seventh lifted Australia to a thrilling 4-3 win over China, sending the Aussie Spirit to the fifth-place game.

Australia struck first in the opening inning with a two-run single from Pippa Adkins. China responded in the sixth, rallying for three runs behind a solo homer by Kailin Xi and a sacrifice fly from Jiaqi Li to move ahead, 3-2.

The lead didn’t last long. Georgia Hood tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom half of the sixth, before Keevers delivered the game-winning hit one inning later, driving in Madison Scott.

Kandra Lamb earned the win with 4.2 innings of one-hit relief, striking out eight while walking five. Yinan Chai went the distance for China and was tagged with the loss.

Puerto Rico 3-1 Netherlands – Play by play and Boxscore

Aleshia Ocasio went the distance, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out five, to lead Puerto Rico to a 3-1 win over the Netherlands and a spot in the fifth-place game.

Puerto Rico did all their damage in the top of the first inning. Ocasio helped her own cause with an RBI single and later scored, while Odalis Cordova added an RBI single to make it 3-0.

The Netherlands answered in the bottom of the fifth, when Suka van Gurp plated Damishah Charles to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Ocasio shut the door the rest of the way.

J’dah Girigorie took the loss after one inning of work, surrendering three runs on four hits.
