While we still don’t have a concrete release date for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, we do know it’ll be coming out sometime this fall, and when it does release, it’ll bring with it some rather silly skins on Day 1, much to the disappointment of fans hoping for a serious militaristic first-person shooter.

That said, according to new reporting from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, Black Ops 7 will also bring a major change to the franchise’s campaign, one that has never been done before.

In Black Ops 7, Single-Player And Multiplayer Will Meet Head On

In his report, Henderson states that the final mission of the Black Ops 7 campaign will integrate with the game’s multiplayer, specifically the long-rumored Avalon map that can play host to over 30 players.

The map, which was initially marked for battle royale purposes, will instead serve as the 12th and final mission of the campaign, according to Henderson’s sources. Henderson noted that the concept sounded like an extraction shooter due to it being labeled as “hardcore,” with the potential to lose progress if you fail.

Perhaps most interestingly, this won’t be the only crossover between the single-player experience and multiplayer, as progress can be earned in the campaign, allowing players to level up weapons and even progress through the Battle Pass. Zombies will also feature similar progression, meaning the entirety of Black Ops 7’s modes will be connected from start to finish.

As a final note, Henderson stated that it was unclear whether Avalon would also be ported to Warzone, or if it would remain relegated to its new purpose. Either way, it sounds like a rather interesting twist on what has become a formulaic campaign system. Whether it sticks the landing is an entirely different story.
