At the tail end of July, we learned the sad news that MY.GAMES has decided to “discontinue” development of Skyforge, leading its still fairly new operator, Innova/4game, to close down the European and American servers. The sunset is slated for September 3rd on PC (October 29th on console), and I’m afraid there will be no last-minute reprieve.
What there will be, however, are sunset events, as the MMORPG’s final patch has now arrived. “Three action-packed gaming weeks await us ahead,” Innova promises. It looks as if the studio has stuffed this update with tons of old outfits, hefty daily login rewards including the argents to buy all those old outfits, the “Everything comes to an end” achievement, the return of the Summer Breeze event, and the final season, which pits players against the Mechanoid invasion.
Yeah, the sunset is sad, but unfortunately, most of us can remember MMOs shut down with significantly less fanfare, like the ones that fired all the devs so nobody was even around to push anything live. Compared to that, this is a nice send-off from a studio that published the game for less than a year.
