Chapter 2 of Mafia: The Old Country challenges players with a horse race through San Celeste. It’s not as hard as the infamous race from the original Mafia game, but it’s still difficult since it takes place shortly after the initial horse riding tutorial. This handy IGN walkthrough will give you the best tips to help you win the Palio horse race.

The Torrisi family needs a replacement rider for the Palio, so it’s time to put your horse riding skills to the test. It’s a two-lap race around town against eight other riders. Managing your horse’s speed with the spur ability is the key to victory.

It may seem hard to pass other riders at first, but Enzo’s horse will gradually pick up speed as the race progresses. It’s not an entirely scripted victory, though, so you still need to pay attention and overtake other racers when you have the chance.

To win, save your spurs for straightaways to close the gap to other riders. You can also spur your horse around tight corners, passing other riders as they slow down to take them. As long as you don’t just mindlessly spam the spur button, you should end up in first place by the end of the race.
