2009 MW2.
no one has ever completed it and not said HELLYEAH
ShadowGhost2025
If he played the og doom or wolfenstein I would say the modern iterations of those franchises
If not then rdr2 for the story and realism

Red dead 2 will make any man cry i love that story so much. And very nice to just ride into the sunset and hunt

Definitely something not as agressive with gameplay, maybe Mafia since that one is very story driven, so he can get used to the controls again.

Bioshock 1
Fitherwinkle
Definitely Mafia. It’s easy to understand. Pretty straight forward. Introduces you to common third person mechanics. Walking, driving, shooting etc without being overbearing or demanding.

What did he play back then? Doom is fast paced for a non-gamer but THE boomer shooter successor if he played shooters in the 90s.

Bioshock 1.
Bioshock 1 basically doesn’t really have a failure state other than the final boss. Might be easier to play than the rest of em.

Bioshock is nice and slow, introduces you to every moving part and is a fantastic game to boot.

Do not give him old games he used to play, maybe choose newer versions. Try to bring back the nostalgia, or go on a completely different route

Titanfall 2 is pretty short, fun and has a nice story. I’d recommend starting with that.

I’d die to be in the position to play through the mass effect legendary edition in one go without knowing much about modern games. The world building is just 👌🤤.
On topic: Will he understand things fast? And which kind of games does he prefer? I’d probably go for Mafia first and then RDR2. Nice story games, but Mafia ist the simpler game I think.

From that list… if offer bioshock for something slower paced… doom for something faster paced, rdr for something more immersive…etc. even staying in the fps world there’s a lot of variety.

I had a 20 year gap, and the Tomb Raider reboot is the game I jumped back in with. So that get’s a vote from me.

Bioshock imho

Out of all of them games you showed probably RDR2. Got to be one of the most hands down chill game you can just binge for a month straight. The story is amazing and will leave you with heartache towards the end. You’ll be just fine with aiming with the deadeye ability too. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 🙂

I would say single player campaign is the best option – your dad won’t be able to compete with people guzzling Gfuel and flicking headshots for multiple hours a day.
Doom is pretty hard for someone without the muscle memory of a gamer, Bioshock is probably similar but has an *excellent* story and environment. Dead Space is also probably a very high pressure environment to learn to play games again.
Titanfall 2 campaign is fire, and probably not a bad start – you get to feel like a real badass without much effort. COD is simple and probably a good start, though I don’t really love how dumbed down the campaigns are. Metro is fantastic, and at a lower difficulty would probably be a really engaging narrative for an older player. Sniper Elite is not a bad option either – it requires a bit more patience and planning, stuff that often feels good for older gamers.
Red Dead is such a massive time investment, I would say let him develop some interest and muscle memory first so that he is able to engage with the story without having to relearn systems at the same time.
I would say keep this in mind – I play games with older guys, and the biggest issue is how hard it is to pick up new systems, new controls, muscle memory. We younger folks are wired to learn these things fast, as you get older these systems slow way down. Learning becomes much slower, much more work, and you can get overloaded easily. Keep it simple, have a narrative and a setting they are interested in navigating – if you don’t like those things you won’t have the required drive to learn.
Edit: Outside of this list – I recommend the Mass Effect series. Cover based shooter, strong narrative, simple systems, great environments.

BioShock franchise, Titanfall 2, red Dead redemption 2 and Alice: Madness Returns.
Also Rocket League cuz it’s fun

Give him a story based game for him to get used to controls on. Don’t start with a shooter or a game that takes a ton of commitment for a single quest like rdr2. Give him those later after he’s gotten used to controls and tracking game objectives. Like others I think mafias the best and it hits that godfather vibe at times too which is something I think a dad could appreciate.
Love rdr2 but just riding from town to town can be a slog and if you forget your horse you’re screwed for 20 mins. Forget trying to learn how to manage your health dead eye and learning controls.
I think forza and sniper elite are also good choices imo. They both have fairly simple gameplay patterns and while not the same will get you used to controls. Forza for better reflex use of the controls, and sniper elite for getting into shooters at a pace that you choose.
Edit: your to you’re, screwed not …

Tomb Raider. Cool story (even more so if he takes time to read the lore you discover) and very linear. Feels like you are playing a movie. Only one annoying part IMHO (the middle “boss fight”).
Zcrustaceansensation
The entire bioshock series. Red dead redemption 1. Grounded 1 and 2. The mafia series. Farcry 3 and 4.
Games with great stories and breathtaking worlds will keeo you hooked while you adjust and lewrn to love the challenging aspects

Bioshock 1 and Red Dead 2 are a good intro.
Doom and Titanfall 2 are absolute top tier single player shooters of this generation with great gameplay and storyline.
Doom over Titanfall because they have had multiple sequels.
I’m still out here begging for Titanfall 3.

TL;DR – Many people in this thread are picking their favorite game instead of what will be easiest for him to play. Don’t listen to them.
Honestly? None of these IMO. If you’re re-introducing him to gaming, it’ll probably take a while for his brain to reacclimate itself to 3D controls. Ideally I’d introduce somebody to gaming with a simpler 2D game first, or if you want 3D then something like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but that’s not on PC…. But if it HAD to be one of these, I’d pick CoD WWII. A fairly standard WWII shooter made with the casual gamer in mind. Sure, it’s nothing incredible but it’ll help get him in the right mindset.
