Nintendo is Raising the Price of the Nintendo Switch in the US, While the Nintendo Switch 2 Price Stays the Same For Now [Update]

  1. Makes sense. The switch 2 was already priced for import taxes but the switch wasn’t

They were not satisfied with the 80$ they asked for Mario Kart World

  3. walmartbonerpills

Goddamn Nintendo, have some mercy lol.

I want to see the same outrage as the media shows with xbox.

This bias reporting is becoming unbearable

  5. Kinda makes sense from a business perspective when you think about it. If they charge more money than they make more money

The Switch’s cost to produce has also reduced over 7 years and the components to produce the Switch 1 series of consoles are much cheaper even taking inflation into account: they were using older inexpensive components for 2017 standards. With economies of sale at the level of the most sold console in history it just gets even cheaper. Those savings weren’t passed on to the consumers though 🙂

Even with the tariffs I doubt Nintendo is taking a big hit with these consoles. There is no fucking way OLED needs to be sold for $350 for their current margins while the Switch 2 is being sold for not that much higher with brand new components and making a profit.

Nintendo decided to turn the tariffs into an opportunity to further drive their profits. A 7 year old device that wasn’t even cutting-edge at launch getting a price hike is insane even with the tariffs etc into account. I love how Nintendo found a way to create a new cash cow. Most companies are losing money from tariffs, Nintendo will be making a profit.

**Did Nintendo’s cost to produce these old consoles increase because of tariffs?**

    Yes.

**Does the tarrifs-related increase in cost overcome the discounts Nintendo has amassed for using 7+ year old components in one of the biggest economies of sale ever seen in a game console?**

    Fuck no.

This increase is disproportionate from the tarrifs’ overall impact, and Nintendo has decided to use the “tarrifs” as an excuse to earn some extra money on a 7 year old device that costs chump change to produce.

Edit: For all the whatabouters, this comment would be the exact same if Sony did it, or if Microsoft did it. The Switch 2 is literally my only console for fuck’s sake. If your response has nothing to do with my analysis, don’t respond.

For people complaining about this, blame the people that voted for The Orange Turd.

  8. teddytwelvetoes

8+ year old console that was already a full gen+ behind the rest of the industry on launch day lol

  9. Greenzombie04

I blame Trump but also question Nintendo, because why is it only Switch 1 going up? Those items are more likely to already be in stock than the Switch 2. How is the Switch 1 going up cause of tariffs but the Switch 2 isnt?

They have to be sending in more Switch 2 hardware than Switch 1 to USA.

Feels like a ploy to get people to buy the Switch 2 or make Switch 2 seem like a good value at $450.

Hmm… I guess now is a great time to start working on that Steam library backlog.

  11. The “It’s due to the USA tariffs” is becoming the new “post-covid layoffs” of justifications for shitty practices.

  12. Wernershnitzl

Bold strategy, might as well get people to consider upgrading/upselling if the pricing isn’t too far off.

  13. redkeyboard

Who the hell is going to buy a switch 1 when you can get the switch 2 for 100 dollars more

  14. ………huh. And here I bought a launch S2 because I figured that price would go up.

  15. I think part of this is probably that Nintendo wants to push people toward just buying a Switch 2 instead. They’re probably scaling down the production of the OG Switch models at this point.

  16. SoloDoloLeveling

i kinda’ wanted an OLED because i’ve been buying/playing shmups on my switch.

i guess i’ll just get a genki covert dock and put my monitor/game in tate mode. 🤷🏽‍♂️

  17. CommunicationTime265

What a mess this tariff crap is causing. I hope y’all conservative buttholes are happy.

  18. This makes sense to me. A large portion of people buying them at this stage will spend VERY LITTLE, if anything on content for it. Why? Take a guess.

  19. ProgandyPatrick

Man, remember when consoles got cheaper over time? This is absurd.

  20. Darkray117

Get your Switch 2s now before they raise the price as well eventually.

  21. Ok_Camel_4424

Nintendo really said: “Pay more… for less.” 💸💀

  22. Torch3dAce

Trump said Nintendo would pay for the tarrifs! 😡

  23. Butane9000

I’m sure that will work out swell for them.

Honestly it couldn’t happen to a better company. What I do find interesting is how in theory Trump’s moves may make Nintendo bring manufacturing back to Japan.

They used to produce they stuff in China like everyone else then shifted that to Vietnam to avoid the initial Chinese tariffs. Now technically Japan itself has a lower tariff then Vietnam.

Either way the text that their shits was to expensive for out of date hardware kills any desire to actually get one. I only recently started using my Switch again when I started working my current job when we play it on breaks.

  24. Serosh5843

I already thought they were crazy for charging more than a PS5 for that half assed console and now they want more? I don’t know why so many people defend this shit company.

  25. Who the hell is buying a new switch in 2025!?!?

I thought I was one of the last few who bought a new one……..in 2023 🤣

  26. yotam5434

Wtffffff an 8 years old device increasing price wtf

  27. KimJungUnCool

I was pretty committed to boycotting Nintendo based on how shitty they’ve been with the Switch 2, now there is no doubt in my mind that I will never legitimately purchase a Nintendo product again.

  28. Blasian_TJ

Beating Microsoft at their own game! That’s smart….

It’s a really tough time to be an older Nintendo fan these days, tough not seeing them for what they are when you’re older.
