The goalposts never stop moving

12GB is fine for 99% of the games out there. It’s just that some future AAA games might need more VRAM, so your card might not be great at playing those games at the highest settings.

You don’t have to listen to the hive mind……

  3. Don’t listen to them a 5070 is great. I recently upgraded from a 8gb 4060ti to a 16gb 9060xt and I’m loving my first 1440p experience. I hope you do too!

  4. helpmehavememes

If you game at 1440p or 1080p, 12 gb is plenty. Periodttt….. I play everything on ultra/high and have never hit 12gb on my 16gb card.

  5. If you’ve got a 12GB GPU in 2025 you’re doing pretty good.

We don’t know what the future holds. Maybe next gen consoles will have 64GB unified ram. Maybe Nvidia’s neural compression tech will make vram irrelevant. Or maybe developers will learn to better optimize games.

None of this will change the fact that the 5070 gets you a high fidelity, high FPS gaming experience in any 1440p title today, so just enjoy it.

  6. My 8gb didn’t suddenly stop running the games I’m playing.

While it’s true that things do move, people love to make unreasonable complaints about VRAM. People expect to be able to max out settings on a low or mid range card, which is literally never how it’s worked. It’s always required some compromise.

8GB is still enough in a lot of scenarios, especially at 1080p. I’m not saying that in 2025, 8GB cards should still be manufactured, but it’s not like you’re locking yourself out of playing anything by having one.

7700xt owner here. Only game that has saturated my vram is Star Citizen. I wouldn’t worry for now.

  9. 12 gb isnt enough

    look inside

“i cant run indiana jones at 4k DLAA path tracing on my 5070”

  10. Solid_Effective1649

12GB is fine for everything except the most demanding games at 4k. My 10GB 3080 was playing 1440p high framerate just fine

  11. Feeling_Ad3857

I dont think these people even play games tbh

  12. Leland90cci

im rocking 8gb and im enjoying my time, who cares what others say, if the game is running good at the settings you want then thats what matters.

Prices have dropped on 70 tier cards, some coming back to MSRP. The unfortunate thing is that the super models will have more VRAM and be marked up. I personally went with a 16GB card I got open box for $70 off, but for anyone not able to find a killer deal, just wait for the super cards. Prices will hopefully drop further or you can go with a super and not worry about VRAM until it’s time to upgrade again in 5 years.

  14. PCMR is full of morons who don’t understand even the basics of how computers work

  15. 12GB isn’t enough for a card of that price and rank. It’s enough for most if not all current games on high to max settings. But it probably not going to be enough in future games, so that’s why all the complains.

8 gig cards can run almost all games as well, but at lower settings, especially lower textures.

  16. I upgraded to a 16gb 7800xt from a 8gb 5700xt in January this year. The 7800xt was the same price on Amazon that the 12 gb7700xt was by 15$ at the time. Long story short live within your means and your games still run without the newest and greatest card.

  17. HankThrill69420

Don’t worry lol it just means you might upgrade it in 7 years instead of 8

  18. The goal post never moved, nVidia is just defiant and adamant that 8-12GB is viable in 2025.

People have been lamenting the low VRAM on nVidia cards for probably a decade now. AMD has been sticking 16GB on theirs since 2017, while nVidia only started putting 16GB on cards starting in 2022. Hell, nVidia wasn’t even using 8gb until 2016 while AMD had tons of cards with 8GB.

  19. Cautious_Village_823

I mean correct me if I’m wrong, but a game can allocate/use more vram if its available, so everyone saying my game uses 12gb on my 16gb card….it might not actually need all that to run fine. Sure the more the better but it doesn’t mean that’s the base requirement for running the game.

  20. 12GB for all current games is plenty. And it will be plenty for upcoming AAA games, so long as you don’t use max settings, which no one should be using anyway. The difference between medium and high is extremely minimal, and isn’t worth the extra VRAM usage.

  21. MadSulaiman

Nothing is enough on “Pcmasterrace” except the best of the best

  22. debacle_enjoyer

I’m chillin with my 8GB RX 6600. No problems playing Steam games at 1440p on Linux whatsoever.

  23. justabrazilianotaku

12GB Vram is pretty much a Perfect sweetpot as of 2025

even 8GB Vram is also enough, as long as you don´t expect to play the newest games at more than 1440P and Medium Settings, and probably still having to rely on FSR/DLSS

  24. PM_me_opossum_pics

Just because a game allocates doesnt mean it uses that VRAM. Unless you start moving past 1440p I feel like 12GB will be enough for 99.9% of use cases. And not every game has to be run at everything ultra with RT maxed out.

  25. Fun_Possible7533

Only 1% of my 140 games go over 10 gb vram.

  26. oOkukukachuOo

I’ve only got 6bg of vram and I thought that was a lot.

  27. chaos_wizard_

I upgraded from rx 6600xt 8gb to rtx 5070 ti 16gb and now i and looking for a way to fully utilize it. Maybe i should start streaming or doing some light content on side i suppose. Any ideas?

  28. 12GB is fine if you don’t plan on running everything at ultra outrageous hyper max graphics. Even the most demanding games will run at 60+ FPS on medium with no problem.

I have a 6GB GPU and I can run most games on medium including Cyberpunk at 60FPS 1080p. I have a 1080p 60hz monitor and no need for max graphics so it’s fine for me

  29. blackadder1620

isn’t mid tier still around 8gb? i’d hope 12 gb is still pretty good, my poor 3080

  30. Original_Dimension99

    4060Ti to 5070 what is that upgrade😭

  31. Seven-Arazmus

I will never complain about vram when theres people out there using igpu’s.

  32. betaTester011

they’re simply lying. no game requires 12 GB to play if one just does this magical thing called lowering the settings from 8K ultra epic full ray traced sweat particles DLASS mega anti-aliasing
