Mexico-Japan 7-6
Mexico took the lead against left-hander Arturo Silva in the second, but Mexico reversed it in the bottom half of the frame.
Riku Sahashi allowed two walks, hit two batters, and Japan committed a defensive error, giving way to Mexico’s six-run rally. Emiliano Felix, Gaston Gaxiola and Eduardo Miranda hit an RBI single off reliever Kosei Fukuyama.
Silva left with runners at second and first in the top of the fourth. Japan got to reliever Iker Calvillo with a two-RBI single by TylEr Ogawa, making it a two-run game.
Calvillo got out of the fourth with the potential tying runners on base and used a defensive double play to quiet a possible rally in the top of the fifth.
Taiki Toyama homered to lead off the sixth, making it a one-run game.
Shinnosuke Yoshizuka became the potential tying run when he reached on a two-hit single, but Calvillo got Daichi Terada on a fly to left field to end the game.

Yuceider Torres hit a two-run homer run off starter Ezekiel Coughlin to cap a three-run first inning.
Cuba added 16 runs on 12 hits on their way to a win by the run-difference rule in five innings.
Sean Garcia kept Australia hitless for three innings, allowing only one walk and striking out six.
The Aussies got on the scoreboard against reliever Yuniel Zamora in the bottom of the fourth.
