The gameplay isn’t even that similar, and it’s kind of a cool idea
But they literally just copied the character designs, even the trailers have the same shots from Horizon FW ones
BurgerKid
Fuck tencent. They’re a plague for consumers and developers lol
ChefCurryYumYum
Last I heard you don’t get design patents on your in game graphics. Either they used your code/assets/etc. or duplicated it so closely as to be indistinguishable from your original work for there to be a violation.
Hopefully Tencent wins the suit.
Edit: Clearly this comment is going to eat a lot of downvotes which is fine but consider this. Do you think large games publishers being able to sue over a specific kind of look or aesthetic will be good for gaming? Or will it lead to publishers suing over anything remotely similar in an attempt to either eliminate competition or leverage settlements?
If they had directly copied 1 for 1 designs or assets of course, but I have see nothing that was a direct copy or appeared to be an asset from Horizon Zero Dawn. These companies have tried to use copyright law in anti competitive ways for as long as I’ve been alive, be wary of it.
R-Dragon_Thunderzord

I could see this going either way tbh, it’s very similar thematically, clearly rips off the design and art language but is the gameplay and are the assets different enough for the courts, or will it just be who has the deepest pockets to sue. Strap in!

Some of the comments in this thread are very “Thing when my company does it 😊 vs thing when Nintendo does it 😡”
C’mon lads. Companies suing each other is either bad or it isn’t, can’t be both.
Sony casually pulling a Nintendo except its warranted lol

Tencent be Tencenting.

First of, I haven’t played any Horizon games. That said, holy shit they look similar. You could have shown me the screenshots of the Steam listing and I wouldn’t have blinked an eye if you told me it’s a Horizon game. The design is extremely close to Horizon‘s design. Combined with the talks about licensing Horizon I can see where Sony is coming from.
I think this is close enough to be a valid lawsuit. Sometimes it’s just stupid stuff that’s nowhere near being a copy. This feels justified

Who would want to plagiarize that mediocre crap? Lmao

I doubt this Horizon clone will ever see the light of day. Tencent announced a Cyberpunk clone a few years ago and it also died into oblivion. Tencent is just all about engagement bait.

Whoa I thought Sony was exaggerating, but they are not kidding. That game’s buildings and robot animals are literal clones of the robot animals and buildings in HZD and HFW.

I’m kind of interested how the coop works out in it. I might give it a try just for that…if it actually releases.

Light of Motiram’s version of “Alloy” looks feminine. That’s actually nice and I’m sure lots would agree. Never understood why the West has to make female protagonists look so… you know.

Apparently Tencent also approached Sony to be allowed to develop a Horizon game. I’m so glad Sony told them to fuck off because those Tencent fucks would’ve sucked the soul out of such an amazing franchise.
steamart360
So many Chinese games straight out rip-off animations and even some systems, I wonder what triggered Sony to actually do something this time, maybe they do love Horizon.
The game looks kinda cool lol, the melee and co-op could be cool but I don’t like the generic “survival and crafting” mechanics

Light of Motiram copies the aesthetic of Horizon.

This means nothing. US Courts only apply for US Markets. Tencent can release this in China and there’s nothing Sony can do about it because the Chinese government will always back the Chinese company over the foreign company.

I know we talk about palworld being a ripoff and nintendo over reaching, even though they, IIRC, demonstrably definitely straight up just took monster designs from them and digimon and other places and edited them, so it was dubious if it fit within transformative or not copyright stuff.
But this? Mask off, straight up copyright infringement. The word inspired would be doing a lot of legwork.

Both Sony and Tencent are huge. Wonder how much this will cost and how long they will fight it.

I could careless if it is a carbon copy I want to play it and if Sony prevents that than Fuck Sony.

Oh Sony is just being over-zealous. How close can it be?

Hahahah.
Hahhaha.
edit: being (very) similar doesn’t make it a copyright infringement. That also doesn’t make the lawsuit and “we have Horizon at home” less funny.
edit 2 – https://www.gamefile.news/p/sony-sues-tencent-horizon-light-of-motiram – this article shows some of the legal filings, which includes side-by-side comparisons of some of the art/design.

[Nah this is probly just Sony being over protective of its IPs](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3319630/LIGHT_OF_MOTIRAM/)…. uh nope wow that is blatant like holy shit how did they think they could get away with this.
