Passed by this and considering picking it up. I dont know anything about pcs and potentially want to get into it. Looked up the case and its from 2014. Would it be worth picking it up?

Why not? Worst that happens is you set it back outside. Just like someone else said, use your own drives.

Take it, see if the hardware inside is even remotely good. If not, discard it or recycle it, I don’t know.

Maybe you can start learning more about PCs with this one.

I learned most of what I know from tinkering with old PCs.

Btw, if you want to actually use the PC outside of tinkering, you should definitely replace the HDD with an SSD.

This what i miss the US. I used to do paper delivery early in the morning during 2000. Alot of people chuck out good computers. I used to collect them or savage their parts for upgrade.

In UK, it happened one time. Someone left a computer out on the street while doing paper delivery. It was decent computer but it left in rain.

I miss US. You can find cool stuff on street kerbs. At that time, i was kid, i found cool toys.

You are luck sob! Keep looking around during early morning inthe surburbs. You might find decebt computer.

Let’s talk more about that receiver there. Love me a good receiver.

  6. I would pick that up, a picture of the back end would give us more information about the era its from

  7. Damn man i wish the sound receiver was near me cause my 20 year old onkyo ive brought across the united states is on its last legs 😅

I still use two of those Fractal Design cases, they age pretty well.

It could be haunted. I’ve heard of computers where you turn them on and they suck you into their motherboard and you have to be really skilled to get out.

  10. Absolutely! The case is a fractal define R5, you might get something with semi-decent specs inside.

Keep us updated if you end up picking it up.

Do not connect to network until that shit is wiped and all storage is replaced

  14. razvanciuy

Turn it into a server for something? Else toss it, win win win. Dump the drives or verify in a virtual os.
Can check for old btc wallet.dat files

Yes just lift with your knees not your back.

Definitely take it! And I’d definitely take the amp on top too

  17. I once picked up a silicon graphics from a storage. It worked. It’s still there, in my house, in storage. But is there

  18. If I found such pc, i would install linux on it and then host a minecraft server on it to play with my friends.

Free is worth, worst case scenario it doesn’t work. And even if thats the case maybe only one thing doesn’t work and youve got your intro into pcs class sitting right there on the curb. And the case being from 2014 only means that the case is from 2014 there could be somid parts in there, bring it home and see what’s hiding

  20. Just make sure you don’t got malware on it is all. I’d factory reset it and check or irregularities but if honest people throw away things all the time. It’s not always something bad and highly doubt you would be in any danger taking it

  21. halfanirishman

I mean it’s free. You’d be mad to not take it. Take the reciever too.

  22. Deblebsgonnagetyou

Why not? Probably won’t be much good for modern games but you could certainly mess around with it and maybe repurpose parts. No harm in it, worse that happens is you have to recycle it. An old PC and cheap old parts is a good way to get comfortable putting PCs together.

  23. Worst thing is know you have a nice case. Love Fractal cases. Im more interested in that receiver

Anything that you pick up off the street make sure you bag it in a trash bag first and double tie it, once home remove it and DO NOT OPEN IN YOUR HOUSE.

Open outside and Inspect the case for pest like bed bugs, roaches….once you’ve given it the ok take it inside

  25. You know the RW stands for read/write? That means you can make your own CD’s AND DVD’s. Do NOT pass this deal up.

  26. No, someone is just using you to take ethical responsibility of their eWaste.

Any free pc is worth it make it the stream running pc or a backup server

  28. kooldudeV2

  29. shadow-the_hedgeh0g
