The first ‘real videogame’ Gabe Newell played was Star Trek, where you made your choices via punch cards before running over to the printer: ‘It usually takes about 15 minutes to do a move’

  1. “They don’t make video games like they used to” *thank god* lol

…I respect that he didn’t say that in past tense.

  3. I played that on a 110 baud dial-up modem between a teletype machine and a mainframe 40 miles away. I also played ADVENT550 which was the first adventure game, coded in FORTRAN, of which I had a listing until I sent it to one of the guys who wrote it and had lost his.

The game he played looks identical to EGA Trek, a game I used to play on my school’s Apple IIe. I guess EGA Trek was the “modern” version.

I fucking loved that game. You can get the VGA version (latest) and play it on DosBox. It’s still fun. I still can’t beat it on Admiral difficulty, but played it last year and still managed to beat it on Commodore.

Playing it on punch cards would be a trip, but I can see how fun it would be.

VR experience remake when?? I’m thinking it would sell. Job simulator did well, imagine it with the power behind HL alyx, having to run punch cards across a room

Why so many Gabe Newell posts in the past hours?
