It feels like people forget big websites these days have 100,000s of lines of JavaScript, CSS and HTML that needs to be parsed, compiled, in some cases JIT-compiled, constructed into a DOM, rendered, etc.
Go build a simple HTML website and you’ll see just how little memory that Chrome tab uses.

Chrome and RAM memes in big 2025, smh.

Can this sub learn a new fucking joke for once?

Doesn’t Chrome cache more in memory and more again if you let it predict and pre-load websites?
There used to be some huge file it would just load into or keep in RAM if at all possible and that was the first time I switched to Firefox and also looked into Chromes chrome://flags.
I managed to get Chrome running ok without being a RAM hog eventually, but on a low-end system with 4GB of RAM it’s still not a good time unless you’re very conservative with open tabs and set them to sleep after not being used for however long you like.

Unused ram is pointless. It goes down when it’s needed elsewhere

Even if that was commercially available, in what kind of pc could you install such thing? (No servers, no govt supercomputers)

You still using Chrome?

People complain about chrome when chrome doesn’t even eat that much ram nowadays and windows alone can guzzle 6GB sometimes
At this point chrome is using ram as ssd stirage, rather than random access…

As much as I enjoy a Chrome dogpiling, I actually have to use edge chrome and Firefox because of work stuff (edge and chrome work and Firefox is my default go to) and with comparable tabs and extensions they’re all pretty much the same. I think sites just demand a bit more now

I mean, considering how big the internet is that’s a pretty good deal. NGL.

My ‘chrome’ process in taskmanager currently has 12 processes associated, and is only using just over 1GB of ram…. the “msedgewebview2” shit that’s all over is using more total ram than chrome, and i’m not even using Edge to browse, I never do….
Hell, Discord is using almost as much as chrome is…

The fact that chrome’s memory leak is a running joke now means their dev team is. No don’t fix the massive glaring bug that makes you the butt of jokes, work on making Ublock not work anymore. Priorities!
