Though don’t expect any new content even if a playable Floyd would be really cool

Mortal Kombat 1 currently finds itself in a very odd spot in the fighting game landscape, but it’s apparently going to be changing things up in the near future.
NetherRealm Studios announced today that Mortal Kombat 1 will be receiving a new update sometime after Evo 2025.
The developers note they will be releasing “some exciting changes” for the game, however, they don’t detail what those may look like yet.
Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition’s release officially marked the end of new content support for the title, so we shouldn’t be expecting any DLC characters at least.
It would be really cool if they tuned Floyd to be a playable character, but we doubt that’s going to happen either.
So what we’re probably going to be looking at is a new balance update as well as potentially some new moves or changed up mechanics.
We look forward to players showcasing their skills at the highest level at this year’s EVO 25 tournament. Soon after we will be releasing some exciting changes for Mortal Kombat 1. As always, we’d love to hear feedback from the community on potential changes. Stay tuned for more!

It is somewhat nice at least that NRS isn’t totally giving up on the game since they did say they would continue to support it through updates though Ed Boon also previously claimed they’d be adding to the game for years to come.
While MK1 has seemingly been in a pretty good place after the last few patches, that hasn’t really carried over to much enthusiasm in the competitive space it appears.
Mortal Kombat 1 is at the very bottom of Evo 2025’s final entrants rankings with just 377 players signed up, which is just barely ahead of Rivals of Aether 2 in the extended lineup category.
It’ll be interesting to see what NetherRealm has been cooking up now that their attentions have shifted for the future of the game.
Evo 2025 is set to go down next month in Las Vegas, Nevada from August 1–3.
