We’ve been dating for over a year now, and she mainly just plays Fortnite on her ps5 these days. I was curious about her specs and I actually can’t believe what I’m seeing here. There is now an itch in me to get her a new cpu, mobo, ram and storage 😭 any budget friendly options?

So… You’re gonna upgrade a pc for her she won’t use?

  3. Jesus christ, a 16 year old cpu

For budget options you can always get a ryzen 5600x with ddr4 ram.

You can keep the storage, 1tb is alr decent

  4. A i7 960, shit, that’s one of the best cpus

for retro gaming… those chips can still boot from floppy and emulate floppy from usb…

But yeah, pcie 2.0… basically everything is better at this point, get her sth like a ryzen 5 5500 on a b550 board with 32gb ram…

  5. Awkward-Candle-4977

change the ssd to something like 512GB+ samsung 870 evo sata.

it’s 2009 cpu so i dont think it has nvme slot.

Your girlfriends CPU to her GPU:

  7. Juusto3_3

I looked at that cpu and was like “where’s the rest of the numbers? 960?” jeez

  8. Get a whole new pc dawg if you’re Able too. Those specs don’t match up good at all. Specially if she’s trying to play anything modern.

  9. According_Force_9225

this is my first time seeing a cpu that old damn. Before that, it was my father’s old 2015~ thinkpad with a 4th generation intel cpu

  10. dQ_WarLord

This is so cool. I used to have a i7 950, with 12gb ddr3 paired with two ATI HD 5970 . At the time it was one of the best money could buy.

  11. 7500f + b650m hdv m.2 + cheapest 11ns< ram and thermalright cpu cooler (go with the cheapest tower cooler) and you’ll be fine.

  12. Odious-Individual

Can we… Can we talk about bottleneck, now ? Because damn

  13. I’ve done worse. Why upgrade if she doesn’t need it? You got an itch to spend money just for the sake of it?

  14. Away-Situation6093

    1st gen i7 on a 3070 and also runs windows 11 wtf

  15. GoodManDavid

The bottleneck is crazy. Needs a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. Also make sure you have an SSD instead of an HDD.

  16. all_is_not_goodman

    I can’t believe that’s a 960 in there. It’s gotta be a bug or something.

  17. Glitz_Whisper4750

How she ended up with that combination lol?

  18. Half of the comments are terrible.
Yes, the CPU is old but there is not much info about everything else.

What is the MB, does the PSU have 24 pins and 8 pins for a new MB and CPU? Does she have a stock cooler?

The cheapest way will be to keep the GPU, RAM, PSU (if it is compatible with a new hardware) and case (if size is enough) and replace only MB, CPU and add some small nvme for the system.

I would check your local Amazon or marketplace for used parts.

  19. Second hand is your friend for budgets. Any local marketplace or maybe jawa

  20. toffee_fapple

So many comments about the CPU, very few about the DDR3 1033 RAM 😢 even for DDR3 that’s slow…

  21. ServesYouRice

My gf has a 5070 and I have a 3070. Upgrade something for me as well

  22. fr3shNh0rNy

Kudos to your girlfriend, I have a similar setup: Core i7 920@4,2Ghz and RTX 2080Ti with 12Gb ddr3@1600.
