I was thinking of applying some of the manufacturer's decals to the side of my case, so I figured might as well wipe it down first to ensure a clean surface for the stickers… boy do I regret it all now. Any ideas as to what I can use to get this stuff off without damaging it further? Tried official lens / screen wipes after this and they helped a little, but not much.

  1. Alcohol, especially in higher concentrations, can be bad for plastics.

  2. Master_of_Ravioli

Well, at least now you have an excuse to mod your case further/buy a new case lmao

  3. Select-Initiative172

that’s wild. IPA is a solvent. I would go windex next time.

  4. PreviousAssistant367

The only thing you can do now is to paint that. Take that panel off and get some spray paint, black matte I guess.

This time alcohol was not the solution, or was it?

  6. Mecca_Lecca_Hi

Ah man, I just used some alcohol on a q tip to clean the dust off a fan on mine, was that bad? No black or anything came off, seemed like just the dust.

Does that panel have a “soft touch” finish that was feeling sticky? If so that stuff deteriorates with time and it would’ve come off no matter how you cleaned it. If this is the case, just use more alcohol until you get it all off cause soft touch gets nasty.

looks like it dissolved the surface. next time use clean water and microfiber cloth

personally Id vinyl wrap it at this point

edit: another comment has also a good idea. If you have a heat gun, you could give it a try. Just be careful not to overdo it, otherwise the plastic will deform

The perfect reason to get a Montech King 95 Pro 👌

  10. Alcohol is bad for most things unless its stated that alcohol is what you use.

  11. P-l-Staker

Stupid risky idea: keep going and create a custom pattern? 🤔

  12. DoYouMeanShenanigans

    So not all bad.

Yeah, paint is ruined. HOWEVER, you have some options.

    1. Take the parts out and then sand and paint the case to your customized liking
    2. Take out parts. Call some paintball shops. Often times they will direct you to a place they send their guns to be Anodized or Powdercoat. You can then drop the case off and the shop will Anodize or Powder Coatit for you.
    3. Another easy parts removed solution is call an Autobody shop. They can paint it for you, or they can even Plastidip it (essentially a spray that creates a pull off vinyl covering similar to a wrap)
    4. Instead of taking everything out and painting, look on Aliexpress or Amazon and find Vinyl Tapes for Furniture or Wallpaper and then apply it to the areas and use an exacto knife to cut it in the exact lines.

sticker bomb the case, that’s what I would do

  14. I wouldn’t mind if the PC is working. It’s just a case

  15. CandusManus

People do not understand how powerful of a cleaner 80%+ isopropyl alcohol is. It actively eats plastics and rubbers.

  16. Laxxboy20

Looks kinda cool tbh. Almost has a marbled effect.

  17. JustAReallyTiredGuy

Uh yeah, you’re stripping the paint lmao.

  18. cszolee79

damp microfiber cloth / damp microfiber cloth with a drop of soap is all you need. maybe non-alcoholic window cleaner for the glass. i mean, with your next case.

    this… this is done for.

  19. Relative-Display-676

i kind of like the new black marble look…

  20. ObservinO

Sand the case down and slap a custom paint job on that bad boy now. Good luck!

  21. Noxious89123

    Oof.

Don’t go straight for the solvents when cleaning stuff! Use a damp cloth, and maybe a little soap if needed. Only after that fails should you try and solvent, in which case you should always “test on an inconspicuous area first”.

    I see a couple of options to make this look good again;

Take the case apart and wet sand it with progressively finer grades of abrasive paper until you achieve a finish that you’re happy with. High grades of paper could give you a high gloss finish, especially if finished with a plastic polish. (Sand only back and forth in one direction, don’t do swirls!)

Take the case apart and sand it a little to “key” the surface for paint. Get some aerosol cans of a colour you like and an appropriate primer and then paint it. Do this either outdoors, or in a well ventilated space such as your garage if you have one. **Take care regarding overspray!** You don’t want aersolised paint drifting and coating your car / your neighbours car / the walls / the floors / the dog, etc.

A large cardboard box makes a decent “paint booth” if you’ve nothing else. Remember, the finish you can achieve with spray paint is largely dictated by the effort you put in to preparing the surface. Do many light coats etc, and take your time. Also, seek further advice on painting, because I am **not** an expert!

  22. Congratulations. You are a great marketing guy. When will you learn to use usual cloth and water?

  23. Well it’s a good thing you only used it on a small, inconspicuous area before scrubbing the entire thing. 🤪

  24. I use a microfiber cloth to clean the computer case.

  25. SuaveularSpuddite

Enjoy your new ‘distressed’ case 😅

Sorry that happened to you, man

  26. Cultural_Cloud96

Since you already ruined the case, why not disassemble it, mask it off, and get some spraypaint and give it a new look. you could get a nice dark blue, maybe try do what that casey guy does on YT and make some planets on it and make it look interesting or just get matte black spraypaint and be boring and just paint it black.

  27. nuclearwinterxxx

Make some patterns. It could be made to look kinda badass if you say it was intentional.

  28. Morall_tach

If I had a dollar for every time someone rubbed IPA on something without checking first, I’d be rich.

  29. _Name__Unknown_

Rub down the whole pc the same way without getting it on the viewing panels. Add a bit off colour like neon pinks and yellows (I suggest flicking it on with a paint brush). Add a few decals like warning signs ⚠️ make it look used and all dinged up, embrace the chaos. Have fun with it don’t bin it straight away, if you don’t like it after that then you can decide to bin it, sell it, give it away.

  30. PlayfulSurprise5237

Just hit it with some bristles and some more alcohol. If anybody asks just tell them it cost extra and that you got the brushed matte finish

  31. DrDrekavac

You might as well go all out now and do the rest of the case for some uniformity.

  32. SparkBase

Alcohol is not a general purpose cleaner for this exact reason.
