EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Express pitching staff put together their best day of the season as Eau Claire won both games of their Sunday doubleheader with the La Crosse Loggers.

In Game 1, it was Max Arlich stealing the show. The Woodbury, Minnesota native and Arizona State freshman threw 7 scoreless innings with just 4 hits allowed for a complete game shutout.

In support of Arlich on the mound, the Express hitters scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. JJ Moran continued his torrid hitting stretch with a solo home run in the 3rd inning. Nick Mascaro knocked in the final 2 runs with a 2 RBI single in the 5th for a 6-0 Eau Claire victory.

Just 45 minutes later, the Express were back in action, but the Loggers bats still had no answers. Luke Ryerse and Austin Steeves combined to scatter 6 hits across 7 scoreless innings, while striking out 8 La Crosse batters.

Eau Claire scored all of their Game 2 runs in the span of 2 batters in the 4th inning. With the bases loaded, Loggers pitcher Cristien Banda hit shortstop Jake Busson on the back foot to bring in the opening run. Mascaro then plated another with an RBI single for a 2-0 win.

With 2 victories, Eau Claire now sits at 10-8 in the season’s second half. They are now 4 games back of the Great Plains East Division leading Duluth Huskies and pass La Crosse in the division standings.

The Express will be back in action Monday night against the Loggers for Dale Varsho bobblehead night.
