A few weeks ago I posted my 4090 melted at the 600W pin connector ( later found out it was also melted into the PSU itself). I tried my hardest to remove it (that’s the gap you see) and it stayed locked in there. I sent it back to the 3rd party seller from new egg under warranty TERRIFIED that if have an expensive door stopper.

After a few weeks of waiting they accepted the repair! They no longer carry the 4090 and offered a 5080 and a $300 refund.

I don’t really play in 4k I got a 1440 ultra wide that’s mid tier so I never really turned on ray tracing or frame generation. So am I missing anything? What should I use the $300 for to better the build? Any thoughts?

I feel like 300 is on the low side for the difference…

Id get a full refund on the pc. They seem shady.

I don’t know about you, but a 4090 was at minimum 3.2k where I am and a 5080 is $2.2k, so I’d be pretty pissed about the difference in what I paid. It sounds like you bought an all in one though so you don’t see the individual prices of components, I think the 4090 is much better than the 5080 not only given the additional performance but the additional VRAM (24GB instead of 16GB).

For $300 refund, I think you’re coming out behind, I’d be fighting them to put a 5090 in instead and look after you when it comes to pricing, even if it means paying them a little bit additional instead.

5080 and $1000 refund otherwise a full refund is in order.

You are getting ripped off bad. $300 is not even close to enough.

  5. A-namethatsavailable

Refund the whole thing and start fresh. They’re likely not giving you the full cost of your gpu.

  6. SirrJamesBond

Nah they are trying to jerk you around with the $300

  7. How much was the system new?

$300 sounds low to me. I’d at least ask how they determined that $300 refund before accepting it. You bought a system with a 4090. Going to a 5080 gives you less performance and less VRAM.

You could insist on getting a 5090 but those are known for burning connectors more than the 4090 is.

  8. Come on, just *repair* the card. Desolder the connector and add a new one. That should cost them less than €300. After all, they didn’t say they accepted a replace; they accepted the *repair*.

  9. Tell them to repair the connector or provide a full refund or a 5090.

Ask for a refund. 5080 is nowhere near as fast as a 4090

  11. ClerklierBrush0

That’s shit. 4090 is in a totally different league than the 5080

  12. SushiBump

In all seriousness, that is an insulting offer. Shouldn’t they honor a matching class replacement, meaning the only appropriate move on their end is a 5090.

5080+$300 is absolute shenanigans. They can’t assume a product would be acceptable to someone, the 5080. That’s like them offering a 5060+$1200 – sure the value lines up, but that’s not what you bought.

  13. New-Audience2639

Ask for a 5090. Tell them they can keep the difference but it’s not worth it to you to have to downgrade to AI slop just to get that low of a refund.

  14. 5080 and 800$ maybe

What they offered you is a fucking scam, ask them to send you a 5090

  15. Louiethegod

You are getting the shit end of the stick if you were given a 5080. A 4090 is superior

  16. Good by all that VRAM. Terrible deal. I would not accept that

So are they replacing the psu and gpu? Also the 4090 msrp is a lot more than a 300$ difference from the 5080. I’d say they need to compensate for more or then buy a 4090 on the used market if they have to. I understand they don’t make 4090s anymore so the ones left on shelves “new” are being listed by third party sellers usually so they mark them up sky high on amazon and Newegg so finding an msrp or even close to it is impossible unless it’s used on eBay but even then, you do know the gpu has a manufacture warranty. You can actually just contact the manufacturer and see if they Will repair it or replace it with a 5090 if they can’t.

I would have the pc company replace the power supply and cable and send back the gpu and see if you can contact the gpu manufacture. Gpus have a 3 year warranty so you might still be within that time frame

Did you unseat it when trying to remove? or did you not seat it all the way? Definitely a gap there.

  19. ChocolateSpecific263

a few watts more and you can compete with a dyson

  20. Get a FULL REFUND. Do not allow them to scam you, 300 bucks refund is fucking ridiculous. They should be offering you a 4090/5090 or a full refund and that’s it.

  21. Fit_Substance7067

    300?

Tell them to subtract the difference in MSRP or give a full refund..that’s horseshit

  22. DonTipOff

Take the offer and keep rolling. It’s not a big jump you’re still getting a semi upgrade over an older generation card.

  23. KILLEliteMaste

5080 16GB VRAM – 4090 24GB VRAM. And because VRAM nowadays is pretty much everything in games even $300 refund is not worth it.

  24. TheMediumBopper

I’d be pissed if I was getting a 5080 instead of a 4090. Tell them tough shit that they don’t stock it and they need to replace it with another 4090.

Not the same thing I know, but I had this happen to me at a tire shop and they fucked up my wheel and didn’t wanna replace it with the same kind cause it was discontinued. Said tough shit and I got my identical new wheel and they paid like 3x what the wheel originally was

  25. Dredkinetic

They expect you to assume that the 5080 is an incidental upgrade and feel as though they’re giving you a great service. The 5080 is NOT an upgrade, but you already know this..

  26. Naa f that 5080. Replacement should be the same tier.

  27. “I cannot accept that downgrade, either supply me with an equivalent part, or give me a full refund for the PC” is what I’d send them.
