I met Mike once. He *does* look that cool, and the way he looks is the *least* cool thing about him. The ethos in Cyberpunk of “if you act cool enough, the universe will get out of your way” makes a lot more sense when you know it was written by a guy who has actually made that work.

From that smooth and rich voice to knowledge that he has in his brain the dude is a walking legend.
One of my favorite things about Mike Pondsmith is when people get him talking about Cyberpunk lore. We love eating it up, but you can tell that he is also a fan so he is so excited to talk about the lore. Then he feeds off of our excitement and he gets this huge smile on his face.

Had the privilege to talk to Pondsmith at a Con once, dude is one of the most chill and societally intelligent people I’ve ever spoken with.
Asked a lot about how he saw these corporatist trends in the 80s and 90s, and he basically said “everything only gets worse” when it comes to corporate oligarchies.
I know I was probably just another fan and another conversation out of hundreds and thousands, but it’s a conversation and creator I can pointedly credit to a lot of the beliefs I hold now.
