After a year using my brand new €350 gaming chair, I realize I find my 10 years old rusty €50 chair way more comfortable.

  1. Exactly as designed. Because design of gaming chairs is basically copied from racing chairs, and those aren’t for comfort, they’re for driver to sit in place under high G maneuvers. Of which you have zero while gaming.

  2. The gaming chair wasn’t made for comfort, it was made to make you look cool. I doubt you get that many people looking at your chair though, so spending €300 to look cool was certainly a waste of money.

I made the same realization a few years ago after bouncing from one gaming chair to another, I went back to my decade+ old creaking Ikea Markus or whatever it is called and found it way more comfortable than any “gaming” chair I’ve ever tried. That’s not to say the Ikea chair is any good either though.

  4. Telepuzique

I think it’s safe to claim gaming chairs are the biggest PC scam.

  5. Tasty-Exchange-5682

I couldn’t stand my new “gaming chair” so I sold it. I can’t sit constantly in one position. I like chage positions every several minutes. In this kind of chairs you simply can’t do it. They are such a gimmick.

  6. KEBABjunior

    its all about marketing.

one looks more appealing than the other.

any mid office chair with headrest offers about same comfort that gaming chairs do.

unless you want the extras like moveable armrest / recline / footrest / leather materials and of course RGB.

  7. # gaming chairs should be renamed to racing simulator chairs

  8. Suikerspin_Ei

If you want comfort, buy office ergonomic chairs. More adjustable and often way more durable.

Here i am sitting on a gaming chair with my butt sinking in the chair and my back hurts just because i also fell to the lie of gaming chairs. I’ll try to buy a legit desk chair asap before i lose my mind

I love my 150€ office chair way better than any gaming chair (it’s the Markus von Ikea) never had back pain from sitting in it. Gaming chairs gave me horrible back pain

  11. TopdeckIsSkill

both of them give me back pain.

There are multiple good gaming chairs, just as there are multiple good office chair.

I had back pain with my old marcus ikea chair and now I’m fine with my corsair rush t3, but I found most of the other gaming chair really uncomfortable

  12. Relative-Display-676

wait till you try $100 ergonomic mesh office chairs…

  13. Not to brag, but it could take me planting my ass on the chair to figure out which one is more comfortable.

  14. I am just here to give a shout-out to Ergohuman chairs, SOOOO good, I’ve had mine for at least 6 years now and it’s still great! The plastic on the wheels has started falling recently, but I got a set to replace them off their site pretty cheaply.

I work from home and game in this chair, I’ve never had back pain or any issues from it in all these years.

IKEA Markus is also a good cheap option, really solid.

A huge problem with chairs is the simple fact that everyone’s body is just a little different. That tiny difference can mean a Herman Miller Aeron feels fucking awful to Dave, but feels incredible to Jane. Sadly it’s pretty hard to actually *try* most chairs before you buy them, and even if you can, you never know if a chair is any good until you’ve had it for a couple of months.

  16. Stargost_

Spending that money on an ergonomic office chair will always be better than on any gaming chair, since office chairs are actually made for sitting in the same or similar positions for hours on end.

Gaming chairs are literally made to look cool, with the only use case they have being for high immersion in racing games.

  17. TheSystemBeStupid

Unfortunately most gaming related devices are a scam. They look cool but functionality is mediocre. That’s why all software like iCue, ghub etc suck.

Once they have our money they dont give a shit.

  18. kurukikoshigawa_1995

im prepared for the downvotes for this but the secret labs chairs are actually really comfortable

  19. SeaworthinessTight83

when you ain’t got a couch, but you’re still casting

  20. I’ve “downgraded” from an “elite gaming chair” to the same chair I have in my office at work, plus some extra features like lumbar support. I can sit on that thing all day and I won’t feel it. I’m a 186cm (6’1), 120Kg (265lbs) guy and can only strongly recommend looking at good office chairs instead, because they are developed to be sat on the whole day and don’t cash grab you for a racing seat inspired rgb monster with faux leather.

  21. johannesjoestar

that’s what you get for buying something without doing any research

  22. shompthedev

Same thing for me with the Herman Miller Embody. I tried for 2 years to get comfortable in that overpriced piece of shit, eventually sold it and went back to Ikea Marcus and a 200 dollar Amazon chair, both feel better.

  23. Missterfortune

I work in a body shop and we have these old office chairs that are beat to hell and at least 10 years old and they shit on my gaming chair.

  24. xdthepotato

had the same office chair.. ngl that shit was ass. them i got a worse piranha byte gaming chair that was ass.. to lastly get myself a secret labs chair… and its BANGING!! fantastic chair with a nice lumbar pillow! though arm wrests lasted a year before split over but i dont use them anyway so they arent attached to my chair

  25. CthughaSlayer

Gaming chairs are modeled after car sits, something designed to sit on for a couple of hours at most. Office chairs are designed to sit on for 8+ plus every day.

  26. InternetEntire438

I’ll just stick to office chairs. Never saw the appeal for gaming chairs.

  27. Marius_Gage

Now call me a conspiracy theorist but sure is a lot of people with old ass rigs with the opinion that cheap chairs are better in here

  28. It looks like you maybe got scammed. That “gaming” chair has all the looks of a £100 Amazon / eBay chair.

There are gaming chairs that are decent chairs. I had a Noble Chair Epic that I got for £250 and it’s still going strong after 8 years. I did make the mistake of getting PU Leather which started to peel so I replaced it with the Noble Chair Hero in fabric for £350. And it’s very comfortable. I work from home so can be in my chair 8-10 hours a day sometimes.

I also have a Sedus Crossline office chair that I got from an office clearout. But I cannot find a comfortable position with it at all. And seeing people comment saying just get an IKEA Markus is wild. Absolutely terrible chair with a solid base and flimsy construction.

But the best thing you can do is have good sitting practices. Don’t sit for long periods without getting up and moving. Make sure the lumbar support suits your back shape and is adjusted correctly. Make sure your desk is at the correct height, as well as your monitors being in your eyeline.

Expensive office chairs aren’t magic. They won’t automatically save you from health issues if you sit like a slob all day.

  29. A_spiny_meercat

Don’t buy gaming chairs, buy typist chairs, whoever decided to make gaming chairs based on race car seats which are amongst the most uncomfortable seats for cars out of necessity of weight savings mixed with crash safety is insane

The chair designed to be sat in all day for doing spreadsheets is way more appropriate and comfortable than a poor imitation of a chair designed for high speed restrained track driving and crash safety

  30. AHumbleChad

Chairs with a high back like so many “gaming” chairs just don’t work for me. They’re uncomfortable. The high back is actually restrictive and prevents my back from conforming to the chair. Office chairs all the way.

  31. grassisalwayspurpler

Because gaming chairs arent made by people that make actual chairs, theyre made by people that make headphones and keyboards. Of course they are shit and cheap (350 for soemthing you sit in every single day for hours is absolutely cheap, invest in a real office chair)

They just sell because they look like official gamer shit for streams and people that dont know any better

  32. Gaming chair are the biggest scam their is. They cost 20$ to be made in China and have 0 support for your body. Your better sitting on the floor then using these. It’s just because is streamers that they got popular. Just get a real office chair. Even the one at Costco which cost way less are better then these shit.

  33. “surprise!!!” – who knew that the overwhelming negative reviews of 99.99999% of “gaming” chairs were correct.

  34. Most gaming chairs ars looks only, there are a few that are actually nice
