“I think that Valve have to be the ones stepping in” – messioso on VRS one season on – Esports News UK

  1. “Valve should step in” to fix an issue that is caused by an intended part of the VRS system.

Valve WANTS to keep the same teams involved in top tournaments without much fluctuation. Every publisher wants that. See Riot and their franchising attempt.

    >So if you were in the top 12 of that invite list, you basically have every single invite for the rest of the year, pretty much guaranteed, because there’s no way if you’re a top 12 team now that you weren’t pretty much top 12 or at least top 16 in the last two invites, for the most part.

Spot on. It’s renamed partnered leagues, designed solely to keep the big boys at the top and to fuck everyone else.

So long as you’re not so cataclysmically mismanaged as EG, you will never fail.

We used to have the ‘top’ teams get essentially free invites to ESL events with a bunch or qualifiers for others to join in. Then BLAST came along and made all their events invite only, so now all events are invite only.

Its a disingenuous comment. Point of VRS is to reward recent performances.

coL had a bad Major so they slid further down the international and regional rankings. This forces coL to take part in tier 2 tournaments they feel are beneath them. Where from recent performances its a justified tournament schedule.

I wish we could just go back to the more open circuit of 2015-2019. Before BLAST fucked everything up. It’s hard to argue with a lot of the points messioso brings up. Hopefully Valve continues to adjust VRS so it’s a more open circuit going forward especially for teams outside of EU.
