    sorry for your loss

were you using the octopus power adapter on a $3000 5090 instead of a 12v-2×6 power cable from a good 3.1 spec compliant PSU

It’s almost like theres no load balancing that’s just crazy talk

what were you doing to push the connector to possibly cause this.

Send that to JayzTwoCents and Gamers Nexus so they can add it to the already reported list of burnt connectors.

How long did you have it before this? A month? A few weeks?

  6. 4090/5090 you power limit/undervolt them no matter what.

Now imagine if you were holding that up with a cardboard toilet paper tube

When I got my 5090 astral, i installed gpu tweak 3 and saw how wildly out of balance my current psu was. If I had any other card, it would have melted. I went through 3 psus before I found a well-balanced load.

I can only imagine how many people have non astral cards and have zero idea how unbalanced their load is. I forsee this being more and more common as time goes on.

    Edit:
I see comments talking about “needing to be snug” to prevent this. ALL my unbalanced psu cables were very snug. I even reseated several times only to have the same unbalanced load.

Those guys are the first one trillion dollar company on the planet. I think people should celebrate with a class action lawsuit.

Thanks to the old gods, power limited my 4090 to 80% as soon i installed it. Works perfectly so far

Fuck this connector. I’m not even using a 5090. I recently moved my pc downstairs and my 5070ti started crashing, red light flashing. Turns out the connector got just slightly loose. Additionally it got rid of occasional driver crashes I attributed to a bit too high oc.

I wonder why governments all over the world didn’t just start fining Nvidia and or making this connector simply illegal to sell.

There’s been fire examples enough to call this device unsafe and force Nvidia to change it by making it illegal.

  13. The fact that this is not surprising anymore is concerning.

Were you running the GPU in its silent or performance mode? The silent one is -25W.

    What PSU you have?

Why were you using the adapter from the gpu instead of the PSUs cable? I reckon receiving same MSI adapter with the gpu that I see in your pic but I threw it in the bin. I’ve got the 1300W prime tx psu from seasonic which got me the all cables I need.

Sad to see, such a good model, amazing cooling but no pin monitoring. That’s why only the astrals are viable cards imo, everything else is a blackbox unless u use external tools.
The voltage stabilizing/sensing asus psus really help too. Very stable/balanced loads for me across all pins.

wow if only there was sufficient public notification and media coverage about this problem.
