No thanks, i can do it all on my laptop,

What’s the point of owning Xbox hardware anyway if they’re giving out everything on game pass

Mmm I don’t see who the target audience is here this thing js gonna bomb hilariously 899 in this economy already rules out most foreign countries and pretty much 95% of Americans on top of that. Who the fuck is paying 899 for a portable device where the ones who would buy this ALREADY either have an Xbox and or pc anyways lmao this is something that should have dropped pre covid

Handheld PC, not console, and the Microsoft tax on it also doesn’t help

Makes sense for the amount of power they are going for. I’m just not sure if I believe there’s as much a market for a high end handheld as Microsoft seems to be hoping. Big difference between all the people crapping on the Switch for being underpowered saying they want one with better specs, and actually coughing up the cash for a system like that.

It’s not an Xbox console. It is a Handheld PC with Xbox branding

I don’t get the hate. I’m a 40+ yo gamer. I have more money than time to myself. I have an aging gaming laptop that I want to replace, and a handheld platform that plays 90% of the games I want to play (current benchmark is Expedition 33) and that I can whip out in the train, the bus, or in bed seems mighty attractive. Now, idk yet about this vs Legion 2 vs MSI vs others but I like the concept of a $1000 gaming platform with enough under the hood to play those games that the Steam Deck struggles with.

And btw, replacing my 2020 G14 with an equivalent 2025 model would cost upwards of $2500, so that’s what I’m comparing the price against, not a $700 console that my life and family will simply never let me use.

  7. PC Gamer’s headlines are getting increasingly more questionable. They obviously know it’s a PC handheld, not an Xbox console.

It’s clearly an Xbox branded rog which was up the that price range anyway.  This is a dumb article

It’s not an xbox console. It’s an ASUS handheld PC. One that ASUS approached Microsoft to get Xbox branding on so it would sell better than the Ally has been. That’s been obvious.

Microsoft should just put the hardware in the bag

This isn’t in the same group as the traditional Xbox. This is handheld competition for things link the MSI Claw, legion go, etc.

  12. This cant possibly sell that great even with additional subsidy. The APU here (the z2e) is far too expensive to make and more than half the chip area doesnt help the device perform better. with its 16 CU s and low memory bandwidth its unlikely to perform more than half the Sereies S that has 80CUs. why would Microsoft bother subsidizing this if almost all of the games people are likely going to buy are from steam.

    what a mess

What are the specs? They must be insane!!!

Best Cyberpunk 2077 playing handheld device.

Would rather save for the next console they’re working on, supposedly.

  15. Can you really call it an Xbox console though? It’s a Rog Ally with the Xbox logo placed on it.

  16. Beardycub86

“ROG Xbox Ally X” who the fuck names these things?!

If this is any indication of what the next consoles will cost I am definitely done. Own the X and PS5 and feels like I might have played 10 games this generation that were worth it. Gaming is getting too expensive for the minor improvements.

  18. I would prefer a home console at that price 899 and be better than 1000 PC

  19. It’s clearly a mobile PC, and this is where the Xbox marketing falls short.

  20. These are niche products for a dedicated enthusiast audience. I don’t think Microsoft cares how well it sells. They’re just doing very bare minimum moves.
