What would be worse, living in Gotham or Night City?

I think Gotham is way more hopeless, if you know the comics and stuff it’s just terrible. Night City is dystopian, but Gotham is just darkness and despair- the city and there are actual SUPERvillains running around

  2. Source_Codex

If you think about it, Gotham has batman so night city would be worse.

  3. Azrael173

Atleast I could get cyber wear in night city better than getting laugh gassed by joker every other week 😭😂

  4. TestSubject003

At least in Gotham, you could move. In Night City, every place is bad.

IIRC, the city with the least number of murders in Cyberpunk has more murders than the place with the most murders IRL.

  5. Animala144

Gotham. Because living in Night City implies you have easy access to implants.

  6. I’d feel a TINY bit safer knowing Batman is around. There is nothing to help you in Night City. You will likely be killed by Cyber Psychos on your way to work.

  7. Alchemist0029

Gotham. Theres like 5 cute chicks in the whole city.

  8. I don’t know why anyone lives in Gotham.

At least in Night City there are people who actually enjoy living there

Gotham City, at the very least, has Batman and other heroes running around dealing with the crime that the GCPD is either too incompetent or too corrupt to deal with themselves. Night City, on the other hand, has all of the things that make Gotham a shithole dialed up to eleven and flavored with megacorporations that profit off of human misery.

On top of that, what makes Gotham the place that it is ends at the city limits. The world outside of Gotham is a lot like ours, with the exception of supers and the occasional alien threat. Night City is a reflection of the horrible future it was born into, and no matter where you go, you can’t escape it (unless you’re super-rich and connected, of course).

Okay I read an in game list of companies that have the best work environment, and they brag about giving their employees 6 days of annual leave per year…not to mention the gangs and cyberpsychos in the streets.

  11. Ghostdude11571

Night City is far worse. On top of nonstop murders, muggings, and gang wars (mind you these aren’t just typical shootouts as people can augment themselves with things like projectile launch systems)

you also have gangs that wanna harvest people’s implants/organs as well as mutilate people’s bodies with busted implants for fun, random chromed out cyberpsychos that could murder over a dozen people at any moment, people equipped with cyber decks that could fry you if you have any cyberware installed just by looking at you, and no masked vigilantes to protect anybody. You also don’t have any philanthropic billionaires that actually wanna help the people, unlike Gotham city.

Gotham is cursed by a warlock to always be bad, but you can leave. Night City is made by immortal corporations that will continue to abuse the city until it’s gone.

I think Night City would be worse because at least Gotham does have some sort of normal life.

  13. Huh_well_we_are_dead

    It’s competitive.
Day-to-day Gotham is better, with no scavs/maelstrom/Cyberpsychos, but at the worst of the worst NC is better, because they don’t have stuff like Joker, or any of the cosmic BS that Gotham will be in the blast radius of.

Of course, this depends on iteration. Flashpoint, Absolute, and anything involving the Dark Multiverse makes NC look like paradise, while most cartoon and ‘66 Gothams are pretty chill all of the time.

  14. Square_Bee_2187

I’d rather live in Gotham than NC
You must be super rich to afford real food in NC, otherwise you have to swallow synthetic garbage and call it dinner.
Just the thought of having no real or affordable food available is scary enough, not to mention the cyberpsychos, and criminals with super human ability at every corner.

  15. XPG_15-02

Night City. For all the crazy shit Batman’s Rogues Gallery does, most of them act like normal criminals. Even the most extreme ones have an avoidable pattern except for The Joker. MFs in Night City literally hunt you down for your body parts.

  16. DorenWinslowe

Night City. And I say this as a comic book fan.

In Gotham, you have a set Rogues’ gallery that Batman barely keeps in line. Corruption is rampant, but forces within the system actively fight against it. You have less than a dozen superpowered threats. Mental illness and wealth inequality are the real issues in Gotham.

In Night City, corruption IS the system. It’s everywhere. The pornographic billboards on display for everyone to see are an example of this. There’s no authority in Night City, no one to tell the corps “no.” And even if someone did, they’d just blatantly ignore it. The mayor’s office is a puppet show, and everyone knows it.

What’s worse is, everyone has access to chrome that could potentially make them superhuman. There’s no regulation, there’s no law. It’s every Second Amendment advocate’s wet dream, but tempered by the idea that security and safety is quite literally Pay to Win, or more accurately, Pay to Live.

The police in Night City aren’t just corrupt, they’re just another gang, but with badges. They can and do freely do whatever they like, and claim a higher purpose. Maybe “some cops” are good, and we see a few of those in the narrative, but the level of corruption makes Gotham’s look squeaky clean in comparison.

How many wanted felons just roam the streets, with easily accessible rap sheets that anyone can see with the right augments? And why is nothing done about it? Because no one wants to do anything about it. The system is working as intended. Local merchants pay homage to their local gang, who in turn pays homage to whatever Corp is willing to throw them a quick eddie. The problem with Night City isn’t one particular villain, it’s the entire system. Gotham always has this hope, “Maybe if we elect this one guy,” or “Maybe if this one person was commissioner,” or District Attorney, or what have you, maybe things will get better. There is no “getting better” in Night City, not without tearing the entire system to the ground, and everyone knows it.

But no one does anything about it.

In No Man’s Land, when Gotham was hit by an earthquake, Superman tried to intervene and save the city by being Superman. But he found he couldn’t. The people resisted his help. And both he and Batman concluded that the city wasn’t “ready to be saved.” That’s Night City, all of the time.

Depends, do I have the money, becasue if yes, living in Night City in Glen apartment, or in villa like Kerry would be pretty neat

  18. Knightrius

Standard of living in Night City is a few levels below Gotham

  19. BrokenDownMiata

    Night City. Here’s why:

In Gotham, the fear factor comes from what is really a handful of Batman’s rogues gallery. Outside of that, we mostly see conventional gangs and criminals. Remove the supervillains and Gotham is just a normal, if slightly depressed, city.

Most importantly, if you want to leave Gotham, you can go to any regular US city, or to Star City, Central City, Metropolis etc.

Night City’s big bads are regular thugs armed with cyberwear. With the ability to rip you in half without cause, simply because they’re on a bad trip.

It is strongly suggested that basic hygiene is gone. The water isn’t super safe for consumption, and with people getting their flesh mangled by back alley ripperdocs, there’s gonna be STIs running rampant.

The streets are filthy, covered in rubbish and bin bags. Blood and other biological substances are all over the place. The air isn’t clean, your home isn’t safe.

Crime is so rampant that the police straight up have to ignore lower levels of it. There aren’t enough NCPD officers to police the whole city and its crime epidemic. That’s why there’s the NCPD scanner. Crime is reported, but then it is up to mercenaries to take care of it. These mercenaries aren’t going to be held liable for collateral damage, including civilian deaths. They’re also not expected to clean up after they leave, so corpses are gonna be all over the place. Yet another disease vector.

Worst of all? You can’t just leave. Night City isn’t just a city in California. It’s a de-facto autonomous state nominally within the NUSA. If you start as a Nomad, you begin outside the city walls. They’re not small, and they’re heavily armed, and I don’t think that’s because the deserts of South California are uber dangerous. No, it’s because Night City is dangerous.

You can leave. Judy does, player choices dependent. In the Aldecaldos ending, you leave with them into South California.

  20. night city, at least in gothem its implied that this doesn’t happen often, i mean look at the animated series.

that shows that while crime does happen, its not on apocalyptic levels all the time and its implied that its not frequent, seems like most of the time you can live your life just fine.

only time something bad has happened during the day is when bane was introduced in the dark knight movies, crime happens at night.

  21. RustinSpencerCohlee

At least Gotham has people like Batman. There aren’t any super heroes on Night City. So my pick is obvious.

  22. Gibsonian1

To me Night City is worse than Gotham because Gotham is its own thing. Across the bay is Metropolis. Most other cities are nothing like Gotham. The water in Gotham isn’t always toxic and filled with garbage.
The air in Night City would smell so bad because the city is surrounded in literal piles of garbage. You can’t get on a boat and leave the harbor or mines might blow it up. This stuff can happen in Gotham because of a super villain but this is daily life in Night City. Gangs literally takeover areas in the middle of the day next to busy streets just because they wanted to.

  23. BrightPerspective

Hmm…Night Citeh has chrome, but Gotham has a chance to ask Harley Quinn out.

    Tough choice.

  24. Savings-Detective226

Gotham, hands down for me i can at least actually have real meat in my mouth, no pause full send it.

  25. TheDaemonair

I’m more comfortable living in Gotham knowing that a masked white man goes around beating mentally ill people at night.

  26. Slinkycup_Pixelbuttz

I mean the fun thing is we don’t get to pick. The corporatist dystopia cyberpunk plays with is a prediction of the world we’re already headed towards.
The worst part about living in Batman’s world is that super villains exist… Gotham is maybe the worst city in the country. You could just move from it. In cyberpunk it is a dystopian world, everything is fucked everywhere. There are no nice places to live. Only places where wealth keeps you above it all.

  27. At least Gotham has Batman trying to make things better

  28. Gotham. At least in Night City you have a chance to chrome up and go out fighting but in Gotham you’re at the mercy of supernatural villains like Killer Croc and worse as a civilian and no amount of guns can save you and neither will the police because there is constant crime and Batman is not everywhere at once.

  29. Scandroid99

Night City for sure. Corruption and gangs/mercenaries is far worse than Gotham.

    • **Endgame V could actually make a difference in Gotham in 3 months.** Something Batman can’t even pull off and he’s being doing this shit for decades.

    • **In Night City Batman would most likely die in a week if he’s not heavily augmented, or consistently using his Hellbat armor**. Without *plot armor* a seasoned street level thug with Mantis blades and Sandy would take off Batmans head. If Killer Croc gives Batman trouble imagine a Cyberpsycho like Lillith.

  30. Super6698

Gotham cause at least Batman’s actually trying to make it better and keep you safe.

Night City, while it’s beautiful as hell, is pretty much hell on earth and no one is going to help you or care if you went missing or end up hurt in a gang fight. NCPD will just ignore it and act like nothing’s happening, they’ll take your case, pretend to care, then put it away forever. That’s if the NCPD isn’t even the reason you died or went missing, the NCPD gives me the impression that they’d probably kill you just because you happened to accidentally sneeze on one of them.

  31. Frequent-Value-374

I’d rather be in Gotham. It’s hard to say how bad the Corp experiments get (frankly it seems set up to be flexible for GMs, so probably as bad as you can imagine). That said your chances are better in Gotham its average violent crime rate is lower and less well equipped. The chances of getting grabbed by someone who wants to torture you is lower. I’d take those odds.

  32. aoibhealfae

Night City for sure. Even trade Klang Valley for it. Gosh… real life cyberpunk stinks
