That’s what keep Linux away from most people, don’t wanna write shell prompt to send an email

That’s why any desktop environment I use is on the most vanilla setting

People get so scared to open a web browser lol

Seriously though, for basic desktop use something like Linux Mint is way easier than Windows. There are no pop-ups about Edge, OneDrive, Office 365, recommended ~~ads~~ apps, widgets and more to confuse the user. You install a browser, a mail client like Thunderbird and enable automatic updates. Maybe LibreOffice. That’s it, they have all they need and an operating system that stays out of their concern.

Really, where Linux is more challenging is for intermediate use, where many users of this sub is. Though it is also rapidly getting better. Once you hit advanced use Linux is easier again.

My deaf grandpa of 70 + years asked me if linux is a good idea cause hes scared with windows 10 end of support. I have never shot an idea down harder in my life

No, wait, no, thanks, I will probably have my laptop checked by my parents. This is a fire idea, thanks.

She made the person who made that Linux set-up, so who’s more savage now huh? Mom FTW

I had setup Ubuntu on an old laptop of my parents since it was getting slow with Windows. They aren’t tech savvy, but since most things they do is from a browser they didn’t have any issues.

It’s strange how many Linux posts there are in PCMR.

She keeps calling the terminal ” the black screen thing ” and I’m too scared to correct her now
