Street Fighter 6 launched with a new Modern control scheme to try and help new players get into the game with simpler inputs.
But it now looks like there may be an issue with certain Modern inputs that make them stricter to pull off than their Classic counterparts.
GiefKid recently showcased what he believes to be a bug in Street Fighter 6 that impacts Super Arts on Modern controls.
Through his testing, he found that performing the motion inputs for Supers would not work if they were slightly off like ending on up-back instead of back.
This seems to be likely due to SF6’s input buffer / leniency since performing them the same way works on Classic fine even if it’s not perfect.
GiefKid believes this is a glitch and not an intentional design choice, however, because it only appears to apply to a handful of characters / Supers.
All of Mai’s Supers, All of Chun-Li’s, Akuma’s first two Supers and Ryu’s level 2 Super appear to be the only ones that work like this.
It’s unclear how long this potential bug has been in the game since we can find no prior mention of it, and most of the competitive base sticks to Classic controls.
Capcom did change up Modern controls a decent bit in the recent Season 3 update, so it is possible this only started happening over the past month — or maybe it’s been there since the beginning and no one noticed.
The Season 3 update did introduce some gamepelay glitches for Guile and Blanka, which were quickly patched out.
