Since its announcement, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 can’t seem to stay out of the news. After the re-release of the original two titles in 2020 was received well by fans, the third and fourth games have released with their own remake collection this week.

Although that should be exciting news for Tony Hawk fans, Pro Skater 3+4 has been met with constant controversy. Whether it’s the will they won’t they nature of Jackass star Bam Margera’s inclusion or the changes that were made Pro Skater 4’s career mode, there’s been no shortage of drama. It seems that’s not stopping soon, as Pro Skater 3+4 is performing questionably over on Steam.

Jackass Fans Rejoice – Bam Margera Has Finally Been Confirmed For Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

After months of rumours, Bam has been confirmed as a secret skater for Pro Skater 3+4.

Back in 2020, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 launched to rave critical and user reviews, selling incredibly well during its launch month. Forbes reported THPS 1+2 were the fastest-selling games in franchise history and boasted selling over one million units within its first two weeks on the market. Fast-forward three years, and the title launched on Steam with miserable sales numbers in comparison.

As the last console version to release, the all-time peak for THPS 1+2 was just hit over 1,700 players on Steam. Now that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is out, it appears history is repeating itself and perhaps going even worse. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 is getting mixed reviews, and like its predecessor, fails to stick the landing on Steam despite launching on the same day as consoles.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Isn’t Doing Too Well On Steam

With the latest title available to play as of yesterday, SteamDB has a grim report regarding Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, and it doesn’t involve discarded Guitar Hero controllers this time around. So far, it is the #23-selling game on Steam over the past week according to the charts produced by Steamdb, and it’s very likely it could be due to the game releasing on Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 launched for $49.99, which is the same price as the original re-releases, but still far more expensive than the Xbox Game Pass pricing of ‘free’ with a subscription. While it is currently impossible to tell how many PC Xbox Game Pass users are playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, Game Rant reported Xbox Game Pass had over 35 million subscribers back in mid-2024.

Currently, Xbox Game Pass subscribers (for PC too) do not have to download Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 to get started, as they can use the Xbox Cloud Beta to play immediately with a live internet connection. While a Steam user is inputting credit card payment information to start the download for Steam, an Xbox Game Pass PC subscriber can boot the game up without even looking for a purse or payment info, and that’s without the $49.99 price tag.

All of this combined means that it’s incredibly easy to assume that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4’s poor Steam numbers are simply due to how many players are going to be jumping in on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. Let’s just hope that Xbox sees that as a win so it’s not another untimely demise for the series.
