The tag-team fighting game space is getting much more crowded than it was just a year ago, and that apparently applies to fan projects too.

Ultimate Sonic Showdown recently released as a fan-made tag fighter based on Sega’s iconic Sonic the Hedgehog characters.

The talented development team led by ArcForged and Choctopus put together a high-octane 3v3 fighting game that players can dig into now.

Ultimate Sonic Showdown is now available on PC in early access and is receiving additional updates up to Version 0.0.11.0 coming out this week to make more adjustments to the game.

As for characters, they of course have the likes of Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Doctor Eggman, and Mecha Sonic with more presumably planned for the future.

There’s of course flashy combos, Supers, recognizable stages and rocking new music crafted for the project.

Although the game is in early access, they do already have rollback netcode online play available, and lobbies are said to be coming in the next update.

Funnily enough, this isn’t the only fan-made tag fighter to feature Sonic lately with the Sega vs. Capcom project also making progress.

More information can be found on the Ultimate Sonic Smackdown website.
