Hello, I need a few mouse/trackball recommendations.

I have arachnodactyly, my hands (25 x 12 cm) and mice just don't mesh well together. Even this monstrous ROG Spatha X ( 137 x 89 x 45 mm,168g), which is supposedly the biggest mouse available, just doesn't fit me and causes fatigue.

A lot of people over on r/MouseReview suggested that I should try switching to a pure fingertip mouse, but I don't like the feel of them. Most are too small/narrow for my fingers anyway.

I need a trackball/a trackball equipped mouse that has decent MacOS support (drivers that allow programmable macros, etc.)

I don't plan on gaming with it. If I ever do decide to play something, I'll simply whip out my good ol' Spatha for a while. I can manage short sessions without an issue, but the way I have to grip it gets pretty uncomfortable.

Thanks in advance, rusty spoon enjoyer out. 🙂

You know what they say about big hands.

I would suggest asking this in r/Trackballs

You should just start tagging online creators to see if one is interested in doing a custom build for your hand. I can’t imagine anything off the shelf would suit your needs.

Wild idea but maybe someone over in r/3Dprinting could offer a solution. Theres a printable mouse I’ve seen a ton, I bet it could be scaled up pretty easily. Hard part would be getting the stock mouse guts to work in it.

    Worth a shot?

The only trackball I’ve ever used I’d the Logitech with the blue ball. Not sure if it’s MacOs supported or not

could you not find publicly available 3d printable mouse plans, and figure out some way to increase their size to fit your needs?

I wonder if anyone could design a 3d-printed overlay for a common gaming mouse that would fit your hand comfortably. It would take some experimentation, but I’m sure it could be done. However I lack the skills in creating such a device.

Maybe 3D print a frame over the mouse so that its functionally bigger. I doubt anything thats not a custom made product will work at all.

  8. You can always 3d print a mouse then take the board from the current one. Might be a little work but u can make one that fits

Ploopy trackballs are pretty decent. They all run QMK so you can do whatever you want in terms of macros and mappings. They work well on MacOS.

There are also some mods out there maybe worth looking into. Lot of people put BTU bearings into them for low friction. There are some giant trackballs you can mod onto them too if that’s interesting to you.

Have you considered the apple trackpad? It has great MacOS support obviously but works on anything. I like it about as well as a trackball. If anything I’d say it’s too large for me so maybe perfect for you.

At this point, I would recommend using a drawing tablet as a trackpad. Most brands have relatively affordable devices with multi-touch capabilities, good MacOS support and programmable macro keys/areas.

100% use a 3d printed shell for an existing mouse with all the features you need for it.

Basically a logi MX ergo with a 5-15cm extended palm section with some extra bottom pads.

It might be ghetto but you could also get away with just adding some m3 heat inserts to the base mouse and adding the extended frame, or just superglue. instead of printing an entirely new frame, would be most practical with the ball.

How tall are you? Not really relevant to your query just curious

I mean, you should totally 3d print your own mouse. All you’d need is to move the switches to the proper positions, and the rest is just a big body. You can make it custom for your hand.

Biggest trackball I know is elecom huge

  15. ConstantMortgage

If you are not gaming then just get a pen and tablet

Elecom Huge, works great, its pretty big, easy to use. I use both at the office and at home.

What great hands for playing bass guitar. I always struggled to play some more technical songs with my small hands.

Holy fuck I have that mouse.

So I know how massive your hands are

  19. demonman101

People are mentioning 3d printing which I think is a good idea but instead of printing a whole mouse you can just print extenders to rest your fingers on that attach to the mouse you already have.

Take up the guitar or piano. Your genetics are chosen for more than gaming. You have a physical characteristic very few people have. Your hands are beautiful and designed to make billions feel emotions not ‘pwning newbs’.
