  1. When I first became a member of PCMR 4 years ago, I actually thought this was a feature of Steam.

Steam takes like 10 seconds to update, I see no problems

  3. FakeMik090

Oh no, the app updates itself so you have less issues and more features, how could they?

Steam’s no problem for me, discord tho? i mostly use it from the web so every time i open it locally it’s like “Updating: downloading update 1 of 11” and it takes forever

I think the reason it’s so common with Steam is because other apps usually hide minor patches in the background, while Steam tells you explicitly

  6. 4th certainty: Discord needs to check for update

Not so much Steam, but Discord on the other hand…

just launched steam. took 4 seconds to “updating steam, verifying files”

that 4 seconds is faster than many many apps take to launch,

    No no, that’s Firefox.

I swear it can’t fucking let me do anything every morning.

I don’t get this on linux(native install, not the flatpack), but did for years on Windows. I think it’s a bug in the Windows version of Steam.

With as much as Nintendo gets wrong, the best feature of the switch is the “start software” button. It’ll let you know about updates but you can play as long as you aren’t going online. Holy shit what a difference it makes.

Steam? Try Discord. That thing updates so often that I’m wondering what they do there to warrant such fast update rate.

If you opt into the beta, you may get updates several times a week that require to restart. I switched back from beta to finalized updates and I only have to update like once a month now

<Kool-Aid man style entry> discord has entered the chat.

Its uploading your browser history to its -dramatic pause- mainframe!
Its all part of the doomsday plot.

I haven’t seen a steam update in years. If it’s happening, it’s instant.
