Footage is still super early, just put it together to get an idea of how the game would feel. Think I'll get rid of the floating text cause it looks weird.

I've always wanted to make an RPG in the elder scrolls style, and I've been thinking it's more achievable nowadays.

I'm a tiny indie developer so obviously can't make something on the level of oblivion. But I think I can make something smaller which captures the same feeling of a living world filled with lore and stuff to discover. I may be delusional.

What do people think? Want to explore fantasy feudal Japan, fight yokai, be a ninja or a mage or a samurai, maybe commit seppuku or something?

I would play it. But you might need a writer for the RPG aspect.

Damn, that’s such a cool concept! I really hope you can make it man. I’d definitely give it a try 👀

  3. This would be cool, worth leaning into the more hardcore aspects a bit as well, like Kingdom come.

  4. Handcraft everything and get a team of weeb historians to think of questlines for free

  5. It’s certainly a very ambitious project, but I think there’s definitely a market waiting for you if you manage to pull it off!

Really evaluate how BethSoft rewards exploration (Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3)

While it doesn’t have to have as big a scope, try to avoid a big place with big empty. Fields with items you need for crafting, a random well hole that leads to a bandit cave, buildings or statues or something like barrels with loot in them that dot the landscape. It’s okay for some places to have empty but avoid it when you can.

Yes but no need to make the graphics ultra realistic. Find a nice art style and stick to that.

I dont think one person can make that you should scale it down and make art style simpler so you dont have to worry less about Performance

Unlikely. I just don’t have time for games that are a maybe. I buy 1-2 games a year, and often wind up playing older games anyway.

I also really hated the flash effect when you hit them, that’s straight awful.

It’ll be the unofficial The Elder Scrolls Akavir game and I would absolutely play it.
