The game literally lies to your face throught out the entire game. Every major character, even minor characters, straight up lie, hide vital information or are being deceived themselves and pass the lie they believe to us. Its really amazing at absolute length the game takes this, even up to the very end of the game.
It is also the FIRST lesson the game teaches you. Not only with the classic pharese from the image but is the underlying lesson of the very first quest of every lifepath.
The blue hologram lady is hot i know but the game warns you a MILLION times that she is hiding information. You cannot take anything alt says at face value. She either wants us death or wants to absorb Vs engram, no inbetween. The entire story warns you thousands times to NOT trust rogue AIs from beyond the Blackwall, if they ever breach the blackwall they WILL cause the end of the world.
Dex, Evelyn, Jackie, voodoo boys, songbird, reed, myers, Johnny, ALT, and a LARGE etc are all deceivers or straight up liars

I didn’t trust Jackie until it was too late. To my eternal shame.
Aight Choom time to put down the Black lace
This; I started playing on release day and I still haven’t talked to Dex because I don’t trust strangers.
I’ll always trust Misty, Vik, and most importantly, Garry

You can always trust Dela.
yeahhh.. I just told Johnny I’d take a bullet for him
I trusted Panam and have zero regrets.
I trust Viktor, I trust Misty, I trust Judy, I trust Panam, I trust Kerry, I trust River, I even trust Johnny (once I befriend him). None of them have ever screwed me, barring Johnny and that was only for a moment and we got over that.
The idea that you can’t trust anyone is paranoia and a meme, much like the “no happy endings” meme.
And for those pointing to Panam in the Phantom Liberty ending…I still find that utterly fucking baffling and out of character, thus think she might honestly be dead there.
Nah im ride or die for Jackie, Judy, Panam, Vic and Rivers, Takemura too by the end of the game.
I’ll always trust Johnny 🫡 like whatever you say, babygirl!
I would argue the actual message of this game is that you absolutely *can* trust people. You can’t trust gangsters telling you they’re gonna make you rich, corporations telling you they’ll take care of you, or cops telling you they’re your only protection.
But *people*? People are alright sometimes. If you’re a nomad or a streetkid, Jackie takes a risk on bringing you into business with him. If you’re a corpo, he saves your life. Your personal relationships are consistently worthwhile, and you yourself have the chance to be a trustworthy ally to a lot of people.
Judy doesn’t really lie or manipulate. Closest is she offers to hire you for the Cloud job but you can say it’s for free. Or hiding the fact that cloud aftermath went poorly until after she could have one evening with not thinking about it.
Panam doesn’t really lie or manipulate you. The closest is she asks for extra help beyond the contract to get revenge after getting back her truck.
– tower ending is debatable. V disappeared for 2 years without contacting her
– common theory is she’s ACTUALLY dead and that’s why Mitch is the one calling. He’s hiding the fact from V. When had Panam never taken the opportunity to chew someone out.
Jackie doesn’t really lie or manipulate you. Sure he really wants this Dex job but he is clear about everything
Misty is almost overly honest about everything – to the point that she seemingly breaks the fourth wall.
Vik is honest to you, and warns you about Dex not being the best character. Closest he comes to “checking out” is the tower ending where he’s on the clock and has to help a client
**Edit**. Huh. Getting downvoted
Can someone point out where I was wrong?
Or at the FBI

only people who i’ve ever given my complete trust to in this game are jackie, mama welles, vik, and misty. oh and v’s pets but they’re not necessarily people so.
that’s the opposite of the games actual lesson
That’s life. But yes. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that everyone in cyberpunk is out for themselves primarily. This is a desperate future scenario.
